UPDATE! 5000 RPM Limit MYSTERY SOLVED!?!?

(2017 ZL1 M6) After getting the car broken in and past 1500 miles I decided to do some 0-60 pulls. The car hits the RPM limiter at 5000 RPM's. The car was advertised to be able to go 0-60 in first gear. Its not even close. First cuts off at 5000 RPM's and so does second. It takes all of first and second to get 0-60 time. This is not like the car cutting power for traction control, this is different and like hitting a wall. I checked both the Tachometer on dash and on HUD display. They are in dead sync. I went and talked to service tech at Chevy dealer and ask about possible lag with tach and not being in sync with actual engine. He said rev limiter and tach and hooked to same sensor, so thats not the issue. I'm not getting any error code, so a little confused where to go. Anyone else encountering this? Any advice?

04/06/2017- I took it in dealer and technician looked at it. It is not showing any codes and he couldn't find any service bulletins about it. He checked a couple of things and everything checked normal. So, I took technician with me on a ride and he had laptop connected to car. Sure enough, in first gear at WOT it totally cut power at 5600 RPM. I was actually relieved and he was able to capture the data. They are discussing with Chevy Tech support and it has been made a priority. They are bringing in an Area Specialist in the next couple of days and I will take the car back up there when he gets here. Also, several of you guys suggested ECM refresh or computer related. Local dealer can not refresh codes without Chevy being directly involved. I will keep you updated. I think it has to be simple because it hasn't shown any other symptoms or issues.

First off that sucks! Sorry man.
I haven't heard of this before. Possibly like the governor setting for top speed?
Have you asked if computer tuning would fix the issue?

Don't worry, it'll happen, closer to 5k miles it seriously started feeling different, now it actually backfires with the popcorn pops now and then yes I've hit 61/62 in first now, give it some time to "wake up" as I've seen others say, I've got 7040 on mine as of today.

Exactly like a governor setting. They are researching at dealer, but can't do much without me leaving the car. Chevy will not even discuss with them unless the car is at the dealer and "hooked up to computer"

Did your car hit rev limiter at 5000 RPM's? Thats my biggest concern, leaving a lot of performance on the table unused. I agree it will "wake up" and improve with time, but the 5000 Rpm thing is bothersome

Does this car have a valet mode? Would be cool if we could set it like this when we let other people borrow the car, (or the wife lol)

Have you tried accelerating slower to eliminate the possibility of Tachometer lag? Just use say half throttle or only feed in more throttle when needed to actually go faster. You might be getting enough wheel spin that maybe it's the traction control system intervening.

Do you know anyone with HP Tuners that could data log a run and actually see the real data from the ECM?

It is probably limiting you to either higher miles before opening up or the car is not fully warmed up. Relax and have some patience.

If you are truly hitting the rev limiter at 5000 something is wrong.

It hits the rev limiter EVERY TIME I do a 0-60 run. It's not a Traction Control issue as it happens at exactly 5000 RPM every time. Not just once in a while. However, If I'm just going down the highway and floor it, it will go above 5000 RPM.

That doesn't make sense, maybe a gear issue?

I talked to the tech at the Chevy dealer. Tach and rev limiter hooked to same chip, so tach reading accurately. It only happens on 0-60 runs and is not Traction Control. I have experience Traction control and it feels different and is more subtle. It hits at EXACTLY 5000 RPM. However, if I'm just going down the highway and floor it, it will go above 5000 RPM's. It is only when doing 0-60 full out runs that I experience it and it happens every single time.

Is your motor cutting out at 5000 rpm or just won't pull any more rpm's?

Both, It cuts out like it hit a wall (rev limiter) and won't go past 5000
