To void or not to void warranty?

I tried to search this exact term; I kept getting search errors so I am SURE there are topics about this but alas I am not sure this is allowed here in this forum AND if it is; I am not sure this is the right section to be posting in so if it needs moving please do.

my C5 isn't a DD, I plan to drive it pretty much all summer and some of the fall until the rain starts then put it away for the winter (with some occasional winter drives when its very dry). I like the idea of modding it, but some mods are just going to void the warranty and I highly doubt I will get more than 25k miles for the first 3-5 years.

I know of someone who voided most of his warranty (mainly powertrain) to put in a Hennessey but Hennessey has its own warranty IIRC. he only had bumper to bumper warranty that would cover non engine/primary systems from Chevy.

I keep hearing adding turbos would improve my MPG but would also require more maintenance as well; before I did that I'd like to get a tuner with a better chip I guess.

Anyway is voiding the warranty a bad idea? (well that's kind of an obvious yes).

Not enjoying your car is a bad idea.

I should add that how you enjoy your car is totally up to you.

oh I enjoy it the way it is however; modding it would give me more to talk about (oh wait... I didn't say "brag" but honestly its not about bragging rights I don't have a lot of friends to brag with (well i do have my car clubs)).

you're right it is totally up to me, yes I am fully aware if something breaks horribly its my checkbook not GM's even if it sits in the garage for a couple years while I save up to fix it.

i have to ask you some thing. You said that you would have to park eit in the garage for couple of years to save up the money to fix. Now what happens If put a blower and tune the car and the next week you blow the engine or other major trouble. You might say you do not have a Camaro.
I would not pay attention to the ones saying go ahead and void the warranty. They do have to pay for the repairs to you car. They probably have the money get theirs fixed the next day.
I would just put a CAI and a good exhaust system on it

just because the engine, turbo or tranny goes kaput doesn't mean its the end; they ARE replaceable (at a steep price indeed) I saw a twin turbo for C5s all black painted for $6,700 that's pretty spendy; I can in theory have that kind of money in less than a year to acquire it but that doesn't account for the labor costs though.

I sure need to read up on CAIs and exhaust systems but I am also thinking I'd like to install a twin turbo as well but I am more than likely going to start off with the smaller mods like the catch can which I still can't figure out which one to get LOL

Depending on the mod you might not void your warranty.

I have a sun fun 2011 w 17k miles and no warranty. I waited until I hit 15k before throwing a tune on it. I did have exhaust and a CAI days after bringing her home. The tune has been on since the summer and love it!! Put headers on it a few weeks ago and yea should've done that sooner. What a difference!

Its a personal decision and an understandable one at that. I personally would keep a DD stock and a weekend car modded but that's just me.
