GM to idle the Camaro/ATS/CTS plant

Due to large amount of inventory sitting on dealer lots, GM announced that they would be shuttering the plants until the inventory levels drop back down into the 45-60 day of inventory time frame.

Dad forwarded me the link from a CNN article today. Sounds like GM is moving past a shift cut at the Camaro/ATS/CTS plant to a full on shut down until those inventory levels drop back down.

Could mean some deals could be had, but also could mean the dealers may not budge on the more wanted models like the ZL1 and 1LE models.

I thought that many of the plants have a Christmas shutdown anyway? So maybe just a delayed restart till inventory drops.

Here's the article. Nothing earth shattering.

Fords done it as well. Basically, the auto industry is in an expected slow down after 3-4 years of sales records.

Unfortunately, there is no 1LE inventory.....So I have to wait for them to open back up. Seems like the right thing for them to do though.

Stupid buyers... shifting back to SUVs and Trucks while forgetting the fact that $2.00 gas prices won't stay around for long. They will be dumping those 10-15MPG gas guzzlers in 2 years again! Gas prices are already showing a quick upturn over the last few weeks, up by over 30 cents a gallon. Some may be from holiday travel spikes, but elections are over so time to tighten the oil production and raise prices again. 9 years since the "Great Recession" started and may things seem to be back to the way they were again with it possibly worse due to the absolute freak-out over Trump winning the election and economists and analysts (and media, democrats, and liberals) making a bigger circus of this country than usual.

Wow, 177 day supply of Camaro and 170 of Corvette.

OTOH, they can't make Tahoe and Suburbans fast enough.

I always thought everybody should have one of each.

There is a thread about fuel prices with good info.. here somewhere.

but the long and short of it is....
a gallon of gasoline will remain under $3.00 for large sections of the USA....FOREVER. crude above $60 a barrel is worth it to the USA shale drillers. pump pump pump away they will and in the process....turn USA into a net oil exporter. The election of Trump ensures that they will be able to expand the drilling with less enviro flack...... and that's all she wrote for OPEC.....who is becoming increasingly more irrelevant.

The thread title is very misleading. To "shutter" in this respect usually means to close...the plants are not closing, they are just being idled for a few weeks.

"GM to idle the Camaro/ATS/CTS plant" would have been a much better title...

Most likely a two week extension to the holiday break. If so production would resume 1/16. Happens more often than you think. Its just the info is more accessible with the internet now....
