2016 2SS vs 2024 2SS infotainment / nav system upgrade?

Hey guys,
Quick question... on my 2016 2SS it came with the built in premium Navigation infotainment system...

It's been a little over a month since i got my 2024 2SS, and I got a message saying that my subscription for the Nav system is up...

I'm like whoaa? ... So I did a build on the configurator on chevy.ca and it says the 2SS Comes with the included 1SS infotainment 3 Plus... Whatever happened to the Premium built in?? i dont seean option to upgrade it...It used to be a $500 + option did they take it away from 2023+ models?

If i take it to the dealer can they activate the premium feature (ie software wise) or would it have to be a different unit? ie theyd have to take apart the interior to put in a different unit?

Yes i have andriod auto but I still prefer the built in premium option... so just wondering if i pay a fee would they be able to activate the built in nav or would it be a different head unit?

Is this GMs way of joining the subscription bandwagon, like BMW charging a monthly fee for seat warmers and Toyota wanting to charge a monthly fee for remote start using the key fob not the app.... lol

Weird. I have the navigation in my 21 and it there's no fee. My OnStar expired after a month, and I never even activated it lol

Real in-car (not OnStar "powered", turn-by-turn) navigation has always been and still is an option with every trim level, from 1LS to ZL1, even for 2024, see screenshot below.

If you didn't tick this box when ordering, you have the base OnStar nav that is tied to a subscription (again, always has been, because it relies on a remote service, not an in-car GPS plus map files).

That said, with previous model years GM did sell a nav upgrade package for the infotainment, so you may be able to still purchase that.

(...cue the google maps / waze crowd who will soon lay out how stupid everyone who pays for onboard navigation is. I did so as well, because I like the full HUD and cluster integration with the always-on speed limit display in the cluster, and don't mind the lower quality graphics rendering that much.)

Thank you sir...

I picked up the car as it was on the lot. Didn't do a special order, but looked for a 2ss that was as close to my old 2016 with magenaride etc.. But i thought that the embedded GPS would be a standard option at that point for the 2SS.

And the "upgrade package" is just a software update, or will they need to put in a different unit?

You're welcome. What you're saying makes sense, unfortunately the car does not come with the premium/nav option by default, and the one you looked at must not have been configured with it either.

I found this link below, which seems to indicate the car already has the hardware and you just need to buy the maps and (possibly) a software update. It's worth a call to the dealership to confirm, I never fully researched 2019+ model year cars myself, because I won't upgrade.

So from your helpful info i found this
https://gmnavdisc.navigation.com/ and they have the updated version for up to 2022 models, ( which im pretty sure is the same for 2024s).

I called just to make sure before placing an order and the tech lady said "it's 2023.... how do you have 2024??" She was acting as if i was lying... She asked for the vin which i provided her and after she put it in the system she's like my system only shows up to 2022...
I cant help you right now... im like yes thats why i called to see if 2024s would be okay? She repeated "it's not in our system yet i cannot help you at this time..."
Lol the fact that she didnt know cars for next year model can be had from September tells me how helpful she was going to be lol

I wanted to throw my two cents in. First, I would check that you have an SD card slot in your center arm rest. That's where the maps SD card goes for the navigation system. (The one for the PDR is to the left of the steering wheel). If you don't have that next to the 3.5-mm aux jack and USB ports, then I don't imagine it's a simple update? I tried to find a picture in the manual and online, but I can't find one (and my car is in winter storage, so I can't take a picture for you).

Also, from my experience (and FYI I have the premium navi package) and I too got the OnStar "the sky is falling, your car is going to stop working an X-PLODE!!!" after my 3-month trial was up. All that meant was the OnStar connection to allow the real-time updates to traffic data and gas pricing stopped on the navigation system. I will fully admit, I was at first confused when I saw that my "navigation system" was going to stop working, but it's just marketing scare tactics. The navigation system fully works still.

I guess my general point is, check that you have the "IOT" code for your car (i.e. the 8" premium + navigation), check you have the arm rest SD slot, and also keep in mind, that OnStar warning isn't 100% loss of navigation, it's just the real-time internet connection to real-time data updates (not even map updates, traffic / gas pricing updates).

Based on OP's posts, I think he has the IOS radio, not IOT (with nav), so he needs the upgrade package, hopefully it's still sold. Checking for the presence of the SD card slot in the center console is a good idea.

The 2016-2018 had the maps installed properly into the infotainment itself, not this SD card nonsense, map updates were also installed from a USB stick onto system storage. I don't know why GM had to cheap out with MyLink 3, using removable media for core functionality is not a good idea...

Unfortunately seems to be the new norm, got a ‘23 Camry XSE with a dedicated Nav button built into the head unit and it’s useless because the map SD is missing

So I saw the vivid Orange colour on the street a few days ago and I Liked the colour so I decided to research to see if any were still available within my area, being this is it for the v8 camaro... so far I found two 1SS models near me (which both have minimal specs )...

and found a 2SS that ALMOST has the same spec as my current 2ss but it lacks the F55 RPO code for magneride! But you know what it does have????
IOT radio!!! which my current black 24 has IOS...

I m in a position where I can either buy another SS (1SS or 2SS) (so I have two 2024s) or trade my current black one for a vivid orange colour that has all the bells and whistles... with every spec that i want.

anyways...

I'm still unsure if it's possible to go from IOS to IOT or how to go about it..

https://gmnavdisc.navigation.com/home/en_US/GMNA/USD that website still does not mention 24 camaros....

and from here

https://gmauthority.com/blog/2019/09...9-2020-camaro/

GM part number: 84250952 does not exist.

And as this topic came up in my mind again......... I wanted to further research it, and this is what people on GM Authority have posted

Correct this all bogus and part does not exist and similar options will not work on my 2019 ZL1 either. Two Texas dealers have told this is bad information from GM Authority. "

lol so back to square one IS there away to upgrade from IOS to IOT??

and as mentioned above SD card does not show 2024 models yet. The only thing my current black 2SS model lags!

The part number certainly exists, see here, it even has a replacement (86775533).

On the trade-in note, well, I wouldn't sacrifice magnetic ride control for navigation, even though I do like the built-in nav.

I'm sure there is a way to achieve what you want, though, even if the GM nav upgrade isn't available. Contact Chris White at WAMS, they advertise a bunch of similar upgrades already (https://www.whiteautoandmedia.com/pr...dioprogramming) and there's always the custom programming option if the exact one for your 2024 isn't listed yet.

If your new Camaro has wireless android or wireless carplay, just use google maps on your phone.
