Yet all the renowned supercars have or will have EVs. So why not a Camaro EV?

Easy money is good money.

Chevrolet has way too many CUV's in the 1st place. Currently 6 I believe. If they want to play their stupid little EV game, there's plenty there already for them to work with.

Now I'm torn. I have a 2023 that's been on order since September 2022 and it hasn't even started being built yet so who knows if I'm even going to get that one anytime soon. The dealership told me last week, "expect a long delay". I'm wondering if it's better to cancel that one and then just get a 2024 when it comes out or most likely have to order that one too. Decisions, decisions.

I'm not enough of an enthusiast in cars to buy anything with an electric or hybrid motor, I'm happy to have a 6th gen. Camaro is a big name, it would be a dumb business decision to let it just die. Look how many people are gonna snap up a "collectors edition" Camaro.

your right bro, every other outlet copied and pasted the press release, they use to be reliable when it came to spy photos for other GM vehicles, but when you look at the Camaro section, there are NASCAR pieces spread through out.

Just took a break for lunch...went out to the garage and enjoyed a cold beer on a beautiful day. The ol' '23 Camaro was looking clean, just sitting there shining, a beauty to behold in all its glory. All is right in the world...

Clear but having worked for both you greatly understate Mark compared to his father. Not even close. Your opinion clearly attempts to ignore the Z28 on the Gen5 was the result of Mark. GM had to repurchase the naming rights for ZL1 as just prior to the Chicago auto show Mark made the decision that the Z28 had to be NA.

Unfortunate but not completely unexpected. That this is not the end of Camaro, as stated in the release, makes me think the name shows up on an SUV which would be sad. EV muscle cars aren't appealing to me but if GM sells out the Camaro name like Ford did with the Mustang it would be a huge disappointment.

5th gen should have been the end. It’s the last time GM actually tried with the Camaro.

That's not really fair. The 6th gen came out swinging for the fences, and it hit plenty of home runs. It just had a few too many "daily usability" compromises for the masses. What was worse than that though was its clear abandonment by gm after a couple years of its release.

Agreed. The 6th gen is a complete improvement over the 5th gen and punched way above its class, performance wise.

I wouldn't consider the Camaro a "renowned supercar". Super-car EVs are astronomically expensive.

EVs are such a completely different animal in technology, platform and propulsion. Any type of link or continuation to the ICE cars is laughable and reduces the use of a storied and cherished name to a cheap marketing ploy for some quick name recognition and advertising cost savings.

It's a "transition" from ICE to something completely different. That should include different model names as well .

Theres a few problems with this. First of all Camaro isnt a supercar, and doesnt have the expected high price of one. Secondly, EVs have a huge weight issue. The Camaro was a track monster as opposed to more straight line performance like its rivals. Going EV would ruin that.

There is also of course the fact the the vast majority of car enthusiast prefer ICE over EV, and trying to make an electric Camaro when 6th gen sales are already bad doesn't seem like a good idea. Especially considering the reaction to Ford and Dodge announcing EV, the media tries to hype it up as the future but actual fans (and customers) aren't in favor of it at all.

If Chevy wants to make a performance focused EV, by all means please do it, but don't call it a Camaro.
