It's how thick the tubing they used to make the headers. Not to be confused with Pipe which uses "schedule" to measure thickness.

With tubing the lower the gauge the thicker, heavier, and also more durable it should prove to be to heat over time.

Thickness
14ga = 0.083
16ga = 0.065
18ga = 0.049

A side note: the amount of room inside the tubing increases as the thickness decreases so it should flow more volume of air.

Tubing ID
14ga = 1.834
16ga = 1.870
18ga = 1.902

The thicker the wall of the pipe, the less heat will transfer out of them. More heat staying in the pipe the more velocity, more power, low under hood temps, etc.

Less ticking noise. Just much more quality. That's what you want in a header as far as that goes

Speed Engineering has been around for a long time. They have been a Popular budget header for the 4th gen for years. And no this company is not going to put enough pressure on companies like Arh or Kooks to lower thier prices. You want cheap then China headers you will get....American made products cost more money.

Stainless Works has a division made in China called Stainless Power. People overprice the crap out of late model performance parts in general because folks are willing to pay $45,000 plus for a Camaro or Mustang, then turn around and pay $1500 for a catback.

For the money on the header, I went with Kooks, but come now $179 3" exhaust all the way to the muffler is um cheap, and "quality" of the exhaust system is really not much of an issue is it? Note I like the idea they leave out the muffler as there is a quality debate to be had there.

Hooker charges $130 for the crush pipe delete kits...
https://www.holley.com/products/exha.../705013126RHKR

You can buy 3" from the header collector to muffler for $180 and it's a crush pipe/AFM delete for $50 more.

You can save some cash by using Speed Engineering's mid pipes and spend more money on the headers or mufflers

Hooker Mid pipes = 560
Texas Speed = 400 ((Don't think you can purchase the mid pipe separate.))
Borla = 695 ((It's 2.75"))

I look at those crushed pipes and can't help but think it chokes there, but I've read posts where folks said nothing to be gained with different piping as those are engineered to flow what's needed (included the physics involved with flow and volume etc) Maybe you'd see a gain on a modified engine. Not sure who's dyno numbers to believe......Hooker's shows the baseline several days after the modified one.

For the mid pipes I'd call them premuffler crush pipes, nothing that some heat a slide hammer and a bit of brazing could fix. I call bunk on Hookers 12 HP gain for this fix.

I've also read people claiming that they don't impede flow, but I call bullshit. Anytime you have a change in direction it affects flow. This crimp pipe is clearly a reduction in size and also causing turbulence going into the mufflers.

Do I think the removal of the crimps is going to net us gain like Hooker's dyno sheet reads? No, but it should be worth a three to five ponys up top.

If you are a DIY fella with a welder, you can buy some overpriced 2.75" pipe for $10 a foot.((what my local exhaust shop priced me.)) Buy a 3ft stick, do all the work your self. $30 for 3hp-ish. While you're under the car, delete the secondary cats, 3ft more, so $60 into it, not sure what the cat delete picks up, but I hear it helps the sound of the car a lot. So low ball, you pick up 6hp-ish, that's $10 to 1hp, no tune needed that is going to complement anything else you do to the car. If you find someone to buy the cats, you could recoupe all your dosh and maybe even make a dollar.

Just my two cents worth of nonsense.

Anyone who has contacted them happen to also ask if they'd do a group buy for Camaro6 members?

It does impede flow, but it is not measurable. AFAIK even the ZL1 has the same crimps and it makes 640 HP...

You all are crazy to think that there's any increase in power from changing out the so-called "crimp pipes" or putting on a different muffler. Let's say for sake of argument you get 5-10 hp from a muffler (stock exhaust is a straight pipe with NPP setup anyway - what do you think you're gaining?), which you won't. You will NEVER see results from this. Your mind will be in heaven with the sound. That's what you're paying for. You're paying for your audible masturbation. I for one will pay for this every time. I love it. Power gains? No.
