New guy on way to 2017 Camaro 2SS
Hi Guys,
New to site & have some questions on the 2017 2SS. I know I'm going to buy one but not sure of exact configuration. The car will be used as a fun sports car for my hot blond of 42 years & I to drive on curvy roads up the Cali coast and mountain roads. I want as civilized a ride as possible on freeways & out just cruisin but still able to "get it on" through the curves & the occasional run up to triple digits on back, safe roads. Do I need the 1LE package on top of the 2SS configuration? In reading, it appears there are some suspension upgrades in the 1LE package that enhance regular driving. I don't want the damn black hood and don't care about Ricaro seats. If the suspension upgrade is good, can I just add it as an option to the 2SS? Also: my current fun car is a stick 2011 CTS Coupe (couple pix attached). It has a built in hard drive to store my 2000 +/- songs. How does music get stored on the 2SS? Any one had oil usage issues? I'm in the Sacramento, Ca. area, 74 years old, and originally from Detroit, Mi. Appreciate the help. Thanks, Dennis Last edited by MotownBoy; 01-21-2017 at 05:16 PM. |

The SS is PLENTY capable enough for what you plan to do. Based on your comments about the hood and seats, I would actually recommend you NOT get the 1LE. I had a 14 1LE and my 16 1SS is every bit as capable.
You'll love it. Just get the mag ride and you'll be able to decide how stiff it is.

The 1LE has a stiffer suspension and larger tires. It is a great track car, but will not have as comfortable a ride as a 2SS with the base suspension. You can order a 2SS with the magnetic shocks which are standard on the 1LE, but the wheels, tires and suspension bits will have to come from the after market. Coming out of a CTS, the 2SS with it's base suspension is probably a better bet.
The 2SS radio has a pair of USB ports. I have an 8 gig usb stick plugged into one of them with a bunch of MP3's on it. I don't know the largest size supported. There is also an aux input for streaming off a mobile phone with a headphone jack. 74 is the perfect age for driving a muscle or pony car. Great nostalgia value. No Oil usage issues, but the car is only a month old. Oil is cheap. |

You'll do just fine with an SS no need to go for the 1LE. As for music, grab a small USB drive like this and enjoy.

If you have a smartphone, you can connect the phone via Bluetooth and listen to the music from your phone.

Motown, slightly younger retired military here. Young man the SS is all you will need to put a smile on both your and that lovely young ladies face. As SSport noted you can connect via bluetooth for your music or it's easy to copy it onto a thumb drive that you can use in the center console. Works like a champ.

Only thing I would add is make sure you get magnetic ride. Makes the ride very nice!

The suspension upgrades for the 1LE is the magnetic ride control, which is a option for a regular SS which i highly recommend. (the mag ride not the 1LE)
You can use the same storage device from you Cadillac and plus it into a usb port on the camaro. The performance exhaust upgrade is a nice touch if you enjoy a active exhaust that can be sporty driving and civilized touring. If you don't need a lot of the "fancy" things like heated/cooled seats you might be able to get by with a 1SS. |

You guys are terrific. Appreciate the prompt responses. No 1LE for me!
Yes, I was planning on the magnetic ride gizmo. Guess I'll invest in some thumb drives; no hard drive is a little surprising. Anyone find a place to keep a CD player? I know there is an input for one. No hard drive, no CD player. Next technology will get to point where I just think the song and it plays! LOL! Y'all will likely see me here often; I tend to be an enthusiastic type when I get on a roll (pun intended) with new stuff. Alas, I love looking at cars & can drive with the best of 'em of any age but my interest in tinkering is zippo. The only reason I learn location of the filler cap is because I need the juice to get the kicks. Is there a way to post pictures directly from my computer? It looks the pix already have to be on the net to get on here. Last edited by MotownBoy; 01-21-2017 at 04:03 PM. |

True that be, Ron. My 2011 Caddy is one of 60 V-6 335 HP in the Country.
Back story is I had been driving a stick 350 Z for 6 years when it stated feeling to low & tight for my girl & me. I had noticed the CTS Couple styling & loved the sharp angular lines. So I ordered one from the factory to get the stick...which was discontinued after 2011. At the time of purchase the salesman told me he had been selling Caddies for 25 years & this was his first stick sale. I'm sure he was holding his breath from the moment he placed the order until I handed him a check; in Cali a buyer can back out at any time & dealer has no recourse. |

I don't think you can get the 1LE with the 2SS, only the SS. I would (and did) get the 2SS with the upgraded magnetic suspension. Doing so gives you the ability to adjust suspension to meat your situation.
