Sunroof regret

Anyone replace their stock roof/sunroof with a plain roof (and headliner, etc), to increase headspace?

I don't fit with a helmet...I really like the sunroof...but when I bought the car I didn't know I would want to take it to the track...

Is it crazy of me to consider a sunroof delete?

UPDATE: traded for a 2SS/RS/1LE with Recaros/Nav/NPP and NO SUNROOF

No more sunroof regret!

Have you considered getting a lower seat and changing it out race day?

I've thought about it, but haven't talked with anyone who knows about sport seat install options/cost. Seems like it would be impractical to swap the stock seat out and back in, but maybe it isn't that hard? (maybe not as impractical as replacing the roof) I would need to do this on both sides (driver/passenger), so a helmeted passenger/instructor can ride along.

The seats would be way cheaper IMO...

Not sure why you think you'd have to replace the passenger seat as well. Average size people can fit with helmets. I'm 6' and fit in the drivers seat with a helmet with the sunroof. Obviously you may be taller or prefer different seat settings / angles, but I don't think you'd need to swap passenger seat as well. Anyone know exactly how much different the "ceiling" height really is with and without the sunroof? Those without the sunroof have the "reverse mohawk roof" too, does that negatively impact ceiling height?

Unless your putting a 5 point harness I don't see why the seats would have to match for an instructer

I like the idea of swapping out the seat temporarily, but want to hear from someone who has had this setup...is it really a feasible option?

My main motivator to have matching seats probably has more to do with a lack of symmetry...but it would be temporary, so I could live with on changing out one

Replacing one or both seats, even with a highend model, would be cheaper than buying a new roof, cutting the existing roof off, welding, body work, painting, and getting a new headliner. Get new seats, or trade the car for a non sunroof model.

Anyone priced a roof replacement?

If not, I guess it's a moot point, since a nice race seat will likely be cheaper.

I started a thread about some brackets I was looking at cause I'm in the same boat as you. My goal would be to have a bracket for a racing seat that can be swapped back and forth with the stock seat. The seat isn't the challenge as much as the brackets.

Changing the roof isn't a realistic option. It would probably run 5k plus of custom fabrication! It would be easier to remove headliner.

Typical of myself,mi was the best of both worlds....headroom and sunroof!

Great, I look forward to learning more about the brackets...which was my next question. I'm following your thread.
