There's a another Z in my future and I'm trying to find out how to delete the ZL1 rear spoiler - didn't see anything on the build site.

Probably going to order one in silver, but the spoiler is over the top for me - too old I guess. My C6 ZR1 has a very subtle spoiler, which BTW allows it to reach 205 when the C7Z06 can't get there because of the more radical spoiler.

Back to the point, I'm in NorCal (Bay Area) and it occurred to me that I may be willing to swap trunk lids with someone who also has a 17 Camaro, depending on the spoiler. Are there different spoilers for different models?

Just looking for ideas...

Not sure I'd be swapping out the spoiler. It's designed as part of the aerodynamics and to provide proper downforce. I thought the same thing about the SS spoiler but after seeing the car in person and living with it for a while it's grown on me.

Put on any spoiler you want, its all for show until you're at 125 miles an hour. The only other option is an aftermarket blade spoiler. The aftermarket ones will cover all the holes of the Wing, the GM accessory blade will not.

It wouldn't be the first year there was a spoiler delete option.

Over the years I've had several online discussions about the aerodynamics of a spoiler. It's always troubled me about the downforce part - in order to get the downforce, you have to create drag and drag causes inefficiencies. I cite the C7Z06 spoiler. Anyone have an another explanation for how that really works.

The spoiler on the ZL1, while not as gross as some of the Vipers, is just too big/intrusive for me.

If I were into racing, I might be concerned about the aerodynamics, but for me, a ZL1 is just a good way to get on the freeway - like my ZR1 (which I'm keeping). LOL..

Not cheap but covers the SS holes and has an adjustable wickerbill. Assuming this fits the ZL1.

My rudimentary understanding is that the aero tunnel process is there for engineers to create the most efficient way to provide the downforce needed while minimizing Cd penalty. In other words some things, like a blade spoiler, may provide the same downforce as the spoiler, but at a greater Cd penalty.

Also, a delete may cause lift, increasing instability...either way I trust the 100's of hours and engineering expertise of the...engineers. nothing about the ZL1 is an accident.

Yeah but... Like Glen said, little effect until you're really moving. I'm only talking cosmetics here

And here's another thing I never could understand about the downforce thing - creating downforce in the back should have the effect of creating uplift in the front. I know I'm missing something on this, but every time I bring that up in these kinds of discussions, everything goes silent???

Probably has something to do with vacuum created by the front splitter and the air dam offsetting the downforce, but I've never read that.

Ah...so spoiler if anything is creating lift...according to that. Then if you delete it...you get worse Cd...

but yes, for cosmetic...if that is what you want, then for sure, it's your car.

seems pretty neutral at anything under 90 MPH.

Interesting video graphic - if I read that correctly, a rear spoiler with no compensating front downforce is not going to be useful.

Earlier this morning, one pic that I saw showed a spoiler that was fairly large by comparison.

It's similar in design but comes out more over the rear fender than the SS does. The stock SS spoiler may be an easy swap but we won't know until someone tries it.
