You have to admit... It took Ford a long time and they really had to work hard to catch up. The GT A10 with a specific combination of options is a drivers race and we won't see the GT500 until 2020. Ford manages to build the fail into each. The PP1 that is just a continuation of the PP. A cup tire PP2 that isn't really a "track car". The original GT350 base that isn't really a "track car". Hopefully they won't cut corners on the GT500 We'll get over it.

"But if that's not enough, an optional Handling Package adds camber adjustment plates and a Gurney flap for the spoiler. Then there's the Carbon Fiber Track Pack that features 20-inch carbon fiber wheels, a more aggressive front splitter, and canards and a wing patterned after the GT4 Mustang race cars. On top of that, the package removes the rear seat and replaces the standard Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires for even sticker Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. With this package, a Ford representative revealed the GT500 produces more downforce than the Ford GT supercar." That tells me, the regular GT500 would be just as capable as the ZL1. The Handling pack will offer a bit of the inbetween and teh carbon fiber pack would be for the people that want to go all out much like the ZLE. I don't see how that is a bad thing as far as the "base" car, looks to be pretty much fully equipped with the 12"LCD screen, Sync3, engine oil, trans, and diff coolers, magneride. EDIT: now the leaked brochure makes no mention of the "Handling Pack" so maybe its either just the regular GT500 and the Carbon track pack. Quote:

New 2020 GT500 release today !
Auto revealing today on the GT500 no manual transmission, rotor dial for gear selection, 700 hp and over they say, no hard #, It looks great, but I cant see it in the league of the ZL1 1le and we know how Ford's get marked up on $. But to all interested good luck.
Need fo speed helicopter drop off really ? Give us hard #, engine, exact hp, rpm, 1/4, top speed. I test drove a ZL1 1LE Saturday with 157 miles this past weekend after summer I'm on the hunt. Last edited by Revalot; 01-14-2019 at 02:09 PM. |

Best thing about the GT500 will if it brings down the price of The Red Eye.

Looks Good
I think it's a nice looking car, and I'm sure it performs just as good but I like the Camaro look a little better. I'll be keeping my Zl1 for sure.

Just another reason for a hotter Camaro to come out!

It won't drop the price of the Redeye because it'll likely BE the price of a Redeye. What will happen tho is that those who refuse to pay markups will most assuredly flock to the Redeye or Hellcat or ZL1 as an alternative. So if anything the markups might give the competition a small boost in sales.

I think people are going to be very impressed with the overall performance of the GT500 when the test results start coming in.
Ford's press release says, "Next-gen active MagneRide suspension". Is this the new generation 4 Magneride that coming out very soon? The press release also says the GT500 will have the highest lateral acceleration ever on a Mustang. So maybe this car will at least match the ZL1 1LE going through turns on a track. |

While the ZL1 might hold an edge on a track, this is just another demonstration of how GM is holding the Camaro down. It’s pretty bad when even the top GM car is beat out by lesser cars from other brands.

Literally zero chance of that happening.
