Water sound rushing through behind the dash

Hey guys, i have a 2010 SS L99 with 40k on the odo. Recently i started hearing what sounded like water rushing through the dash and the smell of antifreeze. Yesterday my wife was driving it and she said the temp sky rocketted and the idle increased. She said she pulled over and the fan kicked on and cooled it off, she made it another 6 miles after letting it cool off and it did it again. I boughy this car from the dealer about 2000 miles ago. Do you guys think its a thermostat issue?, i intitally though heater core but theres no leaks under the dash.

You may be low on coolant. The heater core sits higher than motor so if it's low on coolant you'll get an air pocket in the heater core that'll make that noise. Best way to bleed system is on an incline so air can work its way out.
