Gm techs Joyriding?

Hi guys,

I wanted to run this by you all to see what your thoughts were. I had a clicking noise in the front right tire area of my 17 zl1. The noise was clearly audible at 5MPH going over small bumps ( I took a video of it and told the tech this). I was a bit nervous leaving it with the techs so I kept an eye on OnStar's tracking service. About half way though the day it looks like they did two loops down a main street near the dealership with 12 instances of hard acceleration over the course of 5 miles. For Reference I had 66 Hard pulls all of last month.

I contacted the service manager who brushed it off and put me on with the tech who I left it with. He claimed they could not hear it at first which is hard to believe because it is constant if you hit the smallest bump and quite loud. He told me it was a bushing and to pick it up tomorrow. He also seemed pretty surprised that Onstar tracked the hard acceleration count.

So my main question is am I crazy to be pretty damn pissed and asking for the GM to contact me or would you guys do the same?

You got two choices: Persue it or forget it.

If you Persue it, start looking for another dealer in the future.

Maybe they were just trying to find the clicking noise

This is one of the reasons I have a dash cam and why I watch every second of it after I pick the cars up from service appointments.

Yeah.... I understand it has to be a nightmare to find noises people think they hear all day. In this case though it was loud and often. There is no way you would not hear it moving the car to a parking spot.

I asked them why my car had 6 miles on it while it was at the dealership. They said GM requires them to take every car for a road test as soon as the get the car checked into service

I wouldn't sweat it...as long as you do not see any additional issues.

Yeah, I doubt it has caused any harm, but it is realllllllllly annoying to even consider the fact that techs are taking your car out and beating on it for fun.

Yeah, that is pretty much where I am now that I have had a few hours to cool off. I am apparently supposed to talk to the service gm tomorrow. I guess the only thing that it could really cause to much wear on is the tires. It probably cant be too bad in 5 miles (I hope) but who knows.

Overall it just seems like a crappy and disrespectful way to behave. I guess the most I can really do is complain to the manager. If he tries to pass it off as being necessary to slam the gas at every stoplight they hit (at least so it seems on the map). I will likely just put a review on google and wherever else with the screen shot of the OnStar track and find a dealership elsewhere.

Measure your rear tire tread depths before and after service.

I left the car business a long time ago.

Short answer: Yes - it's what you think and more, at most dealerships.

Corvettes and Camaros by the hundreds - Fun at work? NEVER!

For example: I have Toyota's TRD supercharger on my 2014 Toyota Tundra pickup...I don't drop it off with anyone and leave it...nor do I loan out my truck...

If they want to test drive it, I go too...I drive they ride...

B/L: If I can't be there, then I reschedule to when I am available...

Most likely they will "feign concern"....the service mgr will tell you he will discuss with the tech and "take care of it". He will, but it will go no where long term, techs are very valuable commodities today at the dealer level, esp if he's experienced and good.

You best way to get some payback is by burning them on the survey you will get soon from gm. That will cost all of them some paycheck $, and make an impression.

The downside of this is you def need to start visiting another dealer for service as they will remember you , and not in a good way. Much like the pissed off Chef that spits on your food after you send it back.

Did his nose grow longer when he said that?
