It isn't a power trip as you imply, it is about keeping the site friendly and family oriented... Believe me, I'm way to long in the tooth to worry about who has the "power." Unfortunately there are people on here that start threads or add to them that do not have the ability to carry on a conversation without getting personal... Contrary to your comments about everyone having an opinion, which is true, there is no such thing as freedom of speech on this site... It is a privately owned and operated site for the benefit of Camaro owners... and people that can appreciate it. We make and uphold the rules based on past events... not on the opinions of people that come in, make 20 posts, and then head on back to their own regular site... It is not a Ford site, though we have some very beneficial members that own and drive Fords, nor is it a Dodge site with the same caveat.... We do have rules, feel free to read them, and we uphold the rules, for the benefit of those that care to follow them. When the site gets out of hand, as it has lately with the release of the GT 500, which is an amazing car by the way, then we step in and clean it up... There has been a lot of lee-way given recently, but it has reached the point of being too much... therefore, we are cleaning it up... Please note the highlighted areas below... I have taken a few minutes to highlight some of the areas we are addressing... ***** Camaro5 RULES AND TERMS OF SERVICE. Please Read Before Posting. ***** Welcome to the Camaro5.com discussion forums, a family-friendly corner of the internet for the Camaro enthusiast! Below are some basic “house rules” we live by so you, our valued members, may continue to enjoy the website! 1) Respect & Be Helpful — By far, the most important rule here. Generations of Camaro enthusiasts have come together through a shared passion for the car and the community (in fact, the name "Camaro" means "friend, pal, or comrade"), so the golden rule applies: Treat others as you wish to be treated. This means no foul language, insults, or rude remarks towards other members. We’re here as a family of Camaro enthusiasts, and we should act accordingly. And since the site is constantly gaining new members, please go out of your way to help answer others’ questions in an effort to make this an even better community. Shunning new members’ questions or rudely telling others to “search for it” is extremely discouraged. 2) Agree to disagree — We encourage spirited discussions where members can contribute to the forum, and we understand that not everyone will be in agreement on a particular subject. However, repeated opposing posts with disrespectful intent to ‘win’ a debate will be moderated accordingly. 3) Off-topic forum — This should be self-explanatory. All non-Camaro related discussions should take place in here. 4) Suggestions — Part of the beauty of being a member here is that we value your input! If you have a thought or idea that might improve the site, post it in the Site Announcements/Suggestion Forum. We promise to do our best to accommodate reasonable suggestions. 6) Off-Limit Discussions — There are a few topics for which we have zero tolerance policy based on past experience or simply the nature of the topic. They are: Politics (automotive-related regulations discussions are allowed), Religion, Pornography, Law Enforcement-Bashing, and Street Racing. Any posts of this nature will be removed without warning or notification at a moderator’s discretion. 11) No Double Accounts — Each person is allowed to have only one single account on the site. Double accounts will result in possible suspension of all accounts. 12) Camaro vs. — Please keep in mind that this is a Camaro forum. We like talking about cars in context of the Camaro. We respect a great number of diverse vehicles here, but what ultimately brings us together is the Camaro. If you are not here to discuss the Camaro in a respectful and polite manner, please refrain from posting. 13) Moderator Discretion — All posting activity on Camaro5.com is monitored and subject to disciplinary action based on the discretion of the admins and moderators beyond the rules specifically outlined above in an effort to serve the community at large.

---and you'd know this because you sat in how many Ford Product Planning meetings??? Lots of conjecture in this thread. Yes - the ZL1 was meant to take on the GT-500 -- Yes - the ZL1 was meant to take on BMW and many other cars -- and the proof of this is a lap around Nurburgring..........or any other road course....... I suspect (...notice I said 'suspect'.....) that the ZL1 will beat the Pony around a road course - and the Pony will be a bit faster in the quarter mile -- BUT -- as several people have pointed out: The Driver will make a difference........ Competition is good......it gets you most of what you ask for!

Whenever I take my F body to the track, there is 10 Mustangs to my 1 Camaro. I have yet to see any ZL1 track experiences from users here, except for a whole lot bragging. I say everyone keeps there mouth shut, and do the real talking at the track with YOUR car. |

I would love to see one of the mags run the comparison test between the two, the 2013 will beat it convincingly then say well lets shoot for a more even battle and pull out a 2012 GT500 to do battle against the ZL1. That would be epic.

P.S - I feel sorry for anyone who questions there ZL1 purchase. What happened to being an enthusiast of a certain car? Talking about which is a better dollar for dollar performance car, is a neverending conversation. I have better resolution for those on a budget for performance. Go purchase a Hayabusa Suzukia for a fraction of the cost, and it blow away any production car.
There is a very small niche for these type of cars. Most who are in the market for a GT500 or ZL1, are either a Camaro or Mustang fanatic. The people who aren't, are purchasing 6 cyl. cars. |

Several things about this thread confuse me.
First, why are all of the Mustang people on here? I know it is the internet and all but this is a Camaro site. I am a car enthusiast that just happens to favor Chevrolets. I own a ZL1 now and have owned 2 previous 5th gen Camaros (a 2010 and then a 2011, both were SS). I am happy for any Mustang owner, or future owner, that feels the same way about their car and I do mine. I love the fact the competition is alive and well, as it is good for both companies and their customers. I do not prefer the Mustang. I think the new GT500 has some issues that will be revealed over time. I think the fact that the car does not have a front grill is an engineering oversight that had to be accounted for with the dramtic step of having to remove it. I would bet the styling guys at Ford through a major hissy-fit but got over-ruled because the engineers couldn't keep the car cool. This big hole is ugly. This is just my opinion, but I know a little about automotive engineering programs. If were a Ford fan I would be stoked about the Mustang. I'm just not a Ford fan (and I worked for them for 9 years...). The debate between these two cars, at least in my mind, has never been about 1/4 performance. Who really cares about that? If I did I certainly would not have purchased a ZL1. Not a good value with 1/4 mile perfromance as a goal and a car that cost $60K out the door. This compariosn should be about overall vehicle performance, acceleration, grip, braking, steering, shifting, etc. etc. That, in my mind, can only be measured, in total, on a road course. Nurburgring is used by many OEM's to measure and establish perfromance metrics for the performance car segment. No, I will never drive on the Nurburgring, but it is a really good measure for a vehicle's overall performance. Potential buyers use this kind of data to help make a vehicle purchase decision (at least I do). I have heard that Ford has been to the Ring several times yet no numbers have been presented yet. Why is that? It can't be raining every day that they are there. What gives? It would be really good to get a professional driver on the same road course with the both cars on the same day. Until that happens this whole debate means nothing to me. Laguna Seca, VIR, Road Atlanta or similar would be good choices. Let's line them up and see what they do. 1/4 mile performance should go to the Mustang. I would still like to see both cars at the same track on the same day with the same driver. Both cars, same driver, same track, same day. That is the only way to measure them objectively. I can't wait to see that. Until then this is a bunch of Marketing BS. |
