I just got a slow leak in one of my tires on my 1LE. Only about 4000miles on them.

Took it to Chevy and they said it had a nail and could not be fixed so I needed a new tire. Is that really true, you can repair that tire?

I have repaired mine. no problem since. It depends of the location of the nail or screw. If it is on the sides of the tire then you are pretty much screwed and need to replace it.

The tires are a very soft compound, and speed rated. The dealer doesn't want the liability of the repair. If it were me, I'd buy a new tire. I can't imagine driving 100+ mph on a tire with a patch, and possible core damage.

I got a 2" long nail in the sidewall of my passenger side rear tire... this was with only 400 miles on the car

I really didn't want to replace the tire this early, so....

I decided to pull the nail out and fill the tire with Fix a Flat. This is a temporary fix until the leak starts again. But so far my rear tire has held pressure for about 5 months now, and still going strong.

Like the others have said it all depends on how big it was. I've ran over small screws and had them patched. Previous cars though I had a massive industrial nail probably 7 inches long go in, I replaced that whole tire

If it's in the tread you should be ok. If it's on the shoulder or sidewall it will have to be replaced. I got a screw in mine at 900 miles and patched it (not plugged). No problems since

My dealer will not repair a tire of this rating. Am I crazy to replace the tire with only 4000 miles on it when it is not in the sidewall?(I just checked on that just now).

They want $305 for the tire.

I got a nail at 300 miles.If it is in an area that can be patched thats fine,but dont track that tire.

I got a nail repaired in one of my rears, Ive taken it to a test and tune at the track and had no issues at all.

Riding very briefly on a flat tire will destroy inside sidewall.

Depends on where the nail is.....

....and if you intend to race your car.

If the nail is in the sidewall - you're about screwed, no pun intended. In NY, for example, it's illegal to repair a sidewall wound.

If you intend to use the car like it was built to do - you don't WANT to repair it, IMHO...ran into this issue with the ZL1. The repair becomes a weak point, and I wouldn't want any weak points @ 99 mph around a sweeper...

I wouldn't run it for a Texas mile high speed event or some extended high speed endurance type event, but should be fine with a repair for most other uses. Any tire that has a high speed rating is no longer consider high speed capable for extend periods of time once a repair is made to the tire.
