I must abandon the idea of the ZL1. Question for next choice.

Hi,

Apart from a big surprise, I won't be able to acquire a ZL1.

I currently have a 2016 Mustang GT PP.

I want a big step up in performance. In linear acceleration AND handling in curves.

There is a 2018 2SS 1LE at my dealer. Is it a good option for me?

I never tried a Camaro and they won't let me try in winter.

Keep in mind I moved up from a Mazda 2 to a GT PP so the step was enormous.

Thank you very much,

Koldunic

I see you had one. How does it compare to the ZL1 you currently have?

I checked for handling and power modification on my Mustang but the cost can be enormous. lol

what you currently have is neck to neck with a SS 1LE. I'd say, if you want to void warranty. Add a supercharger and upgrade wheels / suspension / brakes

What? That’s going to cause a shit storm on these forums. Lol. In straight line performance, the difference isn’t too notable in my opinion but, on a track, the difference should be very noticeable. Power wise, you may be disappointed with it not being leaps and bounds faster but, perhaps a Camaro isn’t the direction you should be looking. Have you considered a Corvette instead? Perhaps even a C6 Z06?

Yeah no..... the SS 1LE is neck and neck with the Shelby GT350, it will destroy the Mustang GT PP.

Well, you said that you want a big step up in performance in both linear and curvy performance. The SS 1LE will be a big step up in curvy performance, but not in linear. You could, as others have said, S/C your Mustang, but that wouldn't give you the curvy bump you want. It would take a lot of suspension work to achieve that, but it is doable.

OR, you could get a 1SS 1LE (instead of the 2SS 1LE), and take the extra money and S/C the LT1 engine. It would add a bit of weight to the front, but the 1LE (in any form) will give you the big bump in curvy performance, and the S/C will give you the linear part.

OR, you could look for a used ZL1. You get what you want right out of the box, and there are probably a few around for a good price (perhaps mid-50s), if you look far and wide.

Exactly....from what I read....this SS1LE will eat that GT PP alive. In fact....the article I read inferred that that the 2SS would out perform the GT PP on the track.

Besides....the 1LE is a much nicer looking car than the Mustang.

I have indeed considered a Corvette. A GS or a Z06.

I also have an option for a 2015 GT-R for 85 000 $ (canadian).

Thank you for all the answer.

I guess a 2SS 1LE with a supercharger would do the job too? lol

The SS 1LE is a big step up in performance in regards to track performance (handling "curves"), but not so much in straight ("acceleration").

If you want both, the ZL1 is for you. If you want handling, the SS 1LE is for you.

I'm not sure of your reasoning to not being able to get a ZL1, but if it's money, consider this:

-You can modify your Mustang, but think about how much you'll spend on doing that and also what the car will be worth in the end?
-Do you care what it will be worth? A ZL1 will hold a higher resale value to any Mustang outside of the specialty ones (Shelby, etc.) for a longer period of time.
-What about other cars? S197 GT500? G5 ZL1 or Z/28? C6 or C7 Z06? Hellcat?

I live in Canada and not near a big metropolis like Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver.
My dealer told me I was going to have my ZL1, but it seems less and less true... No allocation.

Money is not really a problem, but I am not into Porsche and other $$$ cars.

My other options are GT-R or Corvette GS/Z06.

By the way, thank you all. This forum is always great.

Contact Becky Doyle at James-Martin Chevrolet in Detroit. She delivers cars all over the US. In fact I am sure she just delivered a ZL1 to someone several hours south of Michigan within the past couple weeks.

I am not certain if there are complications for her to sell to a customer in Canada. You probably already know that Detroit is across the river from Windsor, Ontario. In the picture below, Detroit is to the right, Windsor to the left. Make the trip and stop at the casinos in Windsor, then bring your winnings over and try your luck in the casinos in Detroit.
