1LE/ZL1 Clone
So, I've loved the Camaro since I got the prepurchase invitation senior year of highschool and contemplated taking out college loans for one, but this will be my first one.
Wanting to pick up a 2017 Camaro SS, but coming from a slightly faster/better handling car, what kinda options are there for increasing the performance in the twisties? Are larger tires possible while still being flush? Different sways? Etc. Basically, I'm just afraid of getting sucked into the Gen5 forum if I start looking at what was done with the last gen. What kinda stuff separated their SS's from the very favorably reviewed Z28/ZL1? (Besides power of course. Bolt ons are bolt ons.) |

The only one I know of for sure is the optional MRC on the SS.

The SS 1LE used some components from the ZL1 and they are: wheel bearings, high capacity fuel pump with additional fuel pickups, rear shock mounts, rear sway bar, rear toe links, rims, front tires, steering wheel, and shifter. Who knows what the future brings?

There will absolutely be handling upgrades for the new SS but the oem options are always better than some bolt on aftermarket stuff. I do believe the 2ss with MRC will be a superior track car than the 5th gen zl1, if equipped with comparable tires. Probably not quite as fast though, but close.

I plan on going big with bolt-ons near the end of the warranty, so straight line isn't a problem. It's gonna be a challenge getting the handling to hold up as well though. That MRC should be nice!

Different sway bars and sticker tires will make a difference. I'm sure the MRC will be nice on the track as well

Definitely some summer tires. Did anyone put wider rubber on the last gen?
