Going from Factory NPP exhaust to.....

Hey all. I'm trying to source some exhaust for a client. He wants more rumble but has the dual tailpipe NPP exhaust from the factory. Any suggestions that has two tailpipes per side? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would start with pulling the fuse for the NPP Dual mode flaps, that way they are always open. Its a noticeable difference.

If he wants more rumble then that, SOLO high-flow catted mid-pipes with the stock NPP gives the most noticeable increase in rumble AND performance.

Thanks for that. He was interested in the SLP LMII setup but they only have single tailpipe's available currently.

Leave the cat back and add headers. He will be grinning ear to ear. I know I am!

I have a 2011 SS, L99. I added Doug Thorley muffler delete pipes for $250. You'll need to cut off the chrome pipe and add the dual tips. Extra $50 for a muffler shop to expand the pipes so they could be pushed on. This sound great for the least amount of $$. My is stock though - if they're going to go with headers or x pipe, you won't want muffler delete.

Any cat-back designed for the ZL1 will work and has quad tips as well. I agree with just adding headers though.

Best regards,

you don't muffler delete the dual mode system. like 3rdgen says, pulling the fuse will keep it in straight thru exhaust all the time (instead of opening over 3k rpm). very few aftermarket systems will sound this good.

high flow cats are nice but as you know will void your warranty and depending on your state could cause you some inspection issues (not to mention get you trouble).

If it's still not loud enough, I'd add headers.

The Stainless Works Retro Chambered Cat Back sounds great, but is well north of a grand and I cant say it sounds better than the NPP as I havent heard them side by side.

This youtube video is a good one to show the improvement headers makes, second to none in my opinion, I cant get enough of mine.

I just put long tube headers on my car with the NPP exhaust option. LOVE it! Perfect amount of loud and yet zero drone, couple that with the Mild2Wild controller keeping the neighbors happy too.

Here is a NPP with LT headers. With a mild to wild switch.

You need to ask the client does he want to keep his drivetrain warranty first. If he does you could add Solo High Flow Cats, it will really make a big difference in sound and give you a little bit more power to the wheels. The other option is Kooks Long Tube Headers with their Green Cats. They are not supposed to throw a Check Engine Light. That will get him great sound and about 25 more HP to the back wheels without a tune. Once he does not care about his warranty he can tune those headers and be at 40+ HP at the back wheels.
