Conrats on the Benz. They're very, very nice cars. Study up on the manual, and follow the service schedule as written. They're pricey to maintain, but will easily give you a decade of solid, reliable service as long as you follow the scheduled maintenance.

PS, all of the major flushes and services are complete and it's still under warranty for 2.5 more years. |

That's not nearly as bad as the guy that traded his ZL1 for a Dodge Nitro.

They are expensive flashy cars. They aren't the best out there though. I have friends that have had a Mercedes for a while. All they tell me is that it's going in for this or that but….it's a great car still. I ask "if it's a great, never breaks down car, why is it ALWAYS going in the shop?" They say, after stuttering a while, that it's just BS stuff it's going in for but the engine is solid…….
I have a kid due in January and my wife wanted me to get a Camaro and was probably more excited looking at them then me at the time. I had a car fully paid off and still ran. I would have just stuck with what you had and enjoyed every minute of it

One of my buddies has an sl600.
It cost him about 1000 dollars every time he takes it into the dealership. He changed the sparkplugs on it, (twin turbo v12) spent 300 in plugs, then discovered that when he pulled off the coil over plug modules for each side, the rubber boots pulled the wiring out of the module, which in turn fried the ignition module. it was a 4000 dollar spark plug change. I've had zero luck with BMW's also. Ill stick with my Camaro.

See, I hear 10 positive stories for every negative. It's not a V12 SL600. its a V6 E350. For the first few years of its life, it's been in the shop only for recommended services. (I have the carfax). I have to think that they aren't all reliability nightmares and that there is a serious vocal minority out there. It's just like all the negative detractors to the SS and people that hate them and the interior, etc.

I would just hate to see you try and save money but have something go wrong where the warranty is no longer there or doesn't cover it and you have to eat a huge cost or trade in for another car. They look nice and have all these bells and whistles but in the end, they aren't designed as good as they should be. If you want to save, keep your camaro and lease the mercedes. Let the wife drive it and the repairs are covered by mercedes

I can't lease a used car. I don't want to pay tons of money for a new one. Camaro is a red jewel paperweight. I barely drove it this past summer other than to commute to work and now with the kid that is almost all i'll use it for next year.
I love it, don't get me wrong. I do. But I want something fun that i can actually USE. |

The key to German autos is to have a warranty. You have that so you should be ok. Maint costs can add up quickly, but if you can afford it great. Quite honestly I haven't had much luck with GM vehicles after the warranties are up either and it's one of the many reasons why I leased my 1LE. I like what MB has been doing with their shapes and looks recently although I prefer the way Audi's look, feel and ride. Good luck and post a pic if you can.

My sister has a E550 coupe and I have driven it a few times. Its a very nice car and your wife will love it until it breaks down. My sisters Benz is in the shop a lot. That's why she has a Honda Accord as a back up car.
