Voice of the Camaro - NOWEEDS exhaust
Hello all - I received my NOWEEDS electronic diverter system kit on Monday for my 2SS 6MT Camaro and finally got working on it Wednesday and finished it this evening. It is a beautiful kit, and the highest quality available without doubt. For the money spent (& Camaro5 members get a discount too - use search to find more), it is a great upgrade.
Ok, first a couple of observations: GM engineers clearly choked the heck out of the LS3, but the good news is that they didn't do it until the suitcase-style mufflers out back! Maybe it was in homage to Bumblebee in the Transformers movie - he lost his normal voice, but talks through the radio (a very nice Boston Acoustics system, I might add). Now, with the NOWEEDS system, Bumblebee's voice is back loud and proud! I did a few minor things different from the kit. First, I threw out the crappy, loose wiring harness supplied and replaced it with a 5 conductor shielded cable (all other components are of a very high quality, however). Second, I refuse to drill holes in my Camaro or cut wires, so I ran everything through the firewall at the positive battery cable location and down the left frame rail, ending up on the right side of the transmission with all of the factory wiring. My install time was about 9 hours, most of which was spent on the wiring, but I take my time to do it right with no hurry so your mileage may vary. The diverters themselves mount beautifully, giving credence to the great work NOWEEDS did in designing the system and jig to produce the parts. Another minor tip is that the manual suggests a sawzall to cut off the exhaust pipes. That's simply butchering the system and potentially damaging your car due to the proximity of the pipes to the floor pan. I used a $20 exhaust cutter from Harbor Freight and got clean, straight cuts while avoiding any possiblity of damage from an electric hacksaw. I don't have any sound clips (sorry!), but I can tell you that the system sounds exactly like a Camaro SS should when opened up, and I love the ability to go back to stock exhaust routing and sound at the flip of a switch or anywhere in between. This is absolutely the best system I've ever installed on a vehicle, and I've done six of my cars in the past 5 years, but never an electronic diverter system before. The LS3 comes to life with the system full open - a nice, rich sound that is serious without being overly loud or harsh in any manner. If you think your Bumblebee sounds good now, wait until you hear his real voice - I may never listen to the radio again! Pics follow - let me know what you think! |

How is the clearance on the ground? Are they close at all to scraping?

The straight out sides are higher up then the frame. You'll bottom out before you hit the diverter pipe on the ground.

We are putting a set on the NAPA Camaro!
Will let you know how it all worked out. We are excited. If your going to do a MOD, always go with the best! These are a more money than the QTP's but the comparison is no match IMO. Look how clean that install is. Also the switch is down mounted in front of the drivers seat. |

If you're talking about the switch, there is no warranty issue that can come up really. |
