Question on ZL1 Hood Cowl indents (see pics)
Ok, I have had my 17 ZL1 for almost a year now and it only has 1,450 miles and garaged everyday. When I picked up the car from the dealer there were no indention's in the hood but now I have several and they only seem to be getting worse. Has anyone else had this issue? I am taking it to the dealer this week but my question is this: Does the dealer usually repair and repaint or order a new cowl? Pics are of two different areas on cowl.

Is that carbon fiber? Could it be curing or reacting to the heat. I had a fiberglass toneu once nice one and it ended up curving towards the sun after a year and got worse eventually. I'm sure they will replace that probably bill the supplier!

Underneath that gloss black paint is indeed carbon fiber.

Good news for me ... The dealer ordered a completely new cowl. So its and oil change and new cowl in a few days... Only, if I can talk the dealer in to letting me keep the old one I will have it wrapped some funky design or color just to change thinks up a bit.

This is definitely appears to be a defect in materials or workmanship. Maybe the resin didn't cure properly or carbon fibers had different tension as it cured in that spot. Could also be uneven torque on the fasteners. They should replace it under warranty.
I can't see from your photos where these indents appear relative to the edges but mounting bolts underneath could be pulling unevenly. When I took my hood insert off to get repainted there was a big difference in torque between many of the bolts. When I re-installed it I made sure they were tightened more evenly but not over-tightened. I've had mine for almost 14 months now with about 5300 miles and have no indents at all. See if your indents line up with mounting bolts underneath. If so it's likely from over-torquing fasteners. If you want to see what it looks like off the car, here's a thread where I documented the process of removal. The photos illustrate where the fasteners go on the hood and the heat extractor. When I took delivery of the car there were no marks but after two months I noticed one super small mark. then two months later another and another. Now I have six and the original marks are getting deeper as time goes on. My dealer Wallace Chevrolet gets mad props for taking care of me.

Resurrecting this thread... I am having the same issue develop on my hood. I don't have pics with me right now, but I've gotten indents that look just like the original poster's. I am worried about going to my local Chevy dealer because, frankly, they were horrible to me with the front springs TSB fix. Have other folks had this issue and been able to get this resolved with their local dealer? Thanks in advance.

I’d still take it in. The hood insert shouldn’t have indentions in it. It’s clearly a problem in the carbon fiber or the fastener torque. It will be hard for the dealer to dispute the problem.

I agree. I think I might try and contact Chevy directly first and then go to the dealer.
