I'm not sure that is correct as I've never seen this mentioned before and we all know how most dealers are when it comes to "good" info". I mean if this was the case, why is it not in the owners manual?

With that said, I hope it is in fact true.

Can anyone confirm this?

which is exactly why I brought it up, I'm shocked it hasn't been covered by any of the find new roads reviewers or by owners.

It IS in the manual on page 211, and it's called 'Driver Shift Control'

"DSC allows shifting an automatic
transmission similar to a manual
transmission. To use the DSC
feature:
1. Move the shift lever to the left
from D (Drive) into the side
gate marked with +/−.
2. Press the shift lever forward to
upshift or rearward to
downshift.
While using the DSC feature, the
vehicle will have firmer, quicker
shifting. You can use this for sport
driving or when climbing or
descending hills, to stay in gear
longer, or to downshift for more
power or engine braking.
The transmission will only allow you
to shift into gears appropriate for the
vehicle speed and engine
revolutions per minute (rpm). The
transmission will not automatically
shift to the next lower gear if the
engine rpm is too high, nor to the
next higher gear when the maximum
engine rpm is reached.
While in the DSC mode, the
transmission will automatically
downshift as the vehicle comes to a
stop. This will allow for more power
during take-off.
When accelerating the vehicle from
a stop in snowy and icy conditions,
you may want to shift into second
gear. A higher gear allows the
vehicle to gain more traction on
slippery surfaces"

This is true. I have a 2SS A8 and I've used it. Surprised me me also when I first got the car. Basically you out the shifter in drive and then pull it towards the drivers side. From there you can push it forward to up shift and back to downshift. If you want to put it back to letting the computer shift for you just push the shifter back away from you towards the passenger side.

Thanks, I kept searching "tap shift"

No one really talked about it because everyone wants paddles. Take a look at the +/- on the shifter in the interior pics of an A8. I personally like using the shifter in manual mode in my 328i when making tight turns or pulling out of an intersection. Much easier than trying to pull the paddle when the wheel is turned sharply.

Yes, my TPW is coming up, 2/1/16 .

And thanks for the great tip. I'm sure I would have noticed it at some point, but this really excites me. I have the tap shiftier on my auto shiftier now but aftermarket, so to have it OEM is great.

This is true, you hit the shifter to the left and then can shift up and down with it.
