Well now I know for sure that someone from GM has seen this thread. Hopefully Scott and whomever else from GM that looks at it will take it in the spirit with which it's been created. After being vocal on the forum about not liking the back of the 2014 refresh (I've seen it in person now; still don't like it) I read one of Scott's replies and it made me sit back and think. The Camaro design team doesn't hate the Camaro, nor did they deliberately downgrade the looks. They honestly thought this refresh was at the least equal to it's predecessor, if not an actual upgrade in styling. I don't envy them their position of having to make changes to such a wildly successful and iconic car.

My intention with this thread was to "put up or shut up" about the styling, by offering something constructive as to what I would have liked to/would like to see. My design goals were driver visibility; in particular the forward view to the corners, lighter and smaller than the 5th gen., a move towards a more upscale muscle car/road GT design/style with a sleeker, more modern design. I also wanted to minimize if not outright avoid trendy styling gimmicks.

I believe I've achieved my goals with this concept and hopefully the design team at GM will get some ideas to help them make the 6th gen a dynamic and exciting car visually. I have no doubt it will be that way mechanically and technologically.

I need to see if I can find a 3d model of a 5th Camaro that I can place next to mine and render them both together so viewers can get a really good idea how much difference there actually is, yet this concept still has that familiar "it's a Camaro" look and feel.

Thank you Scott for your original post defending the Camaro design team which inspired my whole concept project, and for taking the time to view this effort.

Just for fun I'm in the process of creating a street scene to provide something more interesting than just the car sitting in the middle of nowhere or in a garage. I'm thinking of maybe creating the Nighthawk Cafe opposite the far corner.

I got to say they all look hideous , nothing about them make think Camaro. Sorry if you don't like it, but that's just my opinion.

I like it, especially the Black Z! I think the only thing that I'd change about it is that the side looks kind of boxy - I think it might be the straight edge along the very bottom of the doors. If you look at the Gen5 that bottom section hints at bowing upward a bit, so it forms more of an aerodynamic hour glass figure.

I love the rear 3/4 view!

I can accept that you don't like it; that's fine, everyone's entitled to their opinion but there's no way by any measuring standard that this design can be called "hideous". If these views don't make you think "Camaro" then what manufacturer/car model DO they make you think of?

They also look great when driving because they're low and out of the way when you're taking corners; especially on a race track. That's the purpose of the thinned extensions the mirrors are attached to; increased visibility for the driver.

Thank you for the feedback!

The look of the side was the result of an early design decision to go with a box setup for the body sides to enclose the wheels for improved aerodynamics. It follows standard racing stying, and while not typical for the street it would be an advantage on a track. I suppose I could do a version with rounded lower edges on the sides and front but that would completely change the identity of the car. I deliberately gave it a high-performance street-legal track car kind of look; more along the lines of an upscale road GT. The other advantage of this style is you don't get mud and crud slung up the side of the car from the wheels.

I forgot to mention in the above post about the side rocker panels is that they provide a nice opportunity for two-color paint schemes; especially for track cars.

I like how your vision is coming along. The Doc style paint scheme is awesome but I'm in love with the black and red one.
