I started building one about 5-6 years ago, and ended up selling off what I had when I moved as I didn't have time/room/tools etc to continue on.

The truck here shown on the right is what my cab/parts went onto become as finished by someone else.

The two T's to the left of the truck belong to long time friends, they build the truck for one of their friends.

I think the thing I can appreciate most about rat rods is that no matter how hard you look, you will probably never find one that looks like another. (Ie: cookie cutter cars). The amount of individuality each one has always seems to impress me.

I'm hoping to be starting one this winter.

After what seems like years of watching, I finally found "the one" again. I just went and picked up this super clean 46 chevy cab last weekend. 34 chevy hood I've had laying around just seeing what it looked like on there. It would take quite a bit of cutting to get it to fit right.

And so it begins... Again...

Like so...

How do you even drive that thing????

The visibility is about the same as a Camaro.

The rat rod thing is about to jump the shark. What started out as an 'anti-street rod ' movement where functionality, solid building and performance were the goal over aesthetics like paint, billet, and chrome has degenerated into ' let's boogerweld a bunch of crap together and call it a rat rod' . I see many examples that are just plain unsafe.

And if I see one more wrench bent into a brake pedal, I shall vomit.

The whole rat rod thing is just as bad as the fiberglass wonder rods. Old school hot rods looked like crap because people only cared about going fast. Now, people purposely build the cars to look like crap and spend a fortune doing it. I know a guy that just built a rat rod pick up and spend tens of thousands of dollars doing it. It isn't cheap.

I consider my Mustang a rat rod. Everything I've done to the car is by my hands. I keep it shitty looking so when I go to a car cruise, I don't have to spend the day polishing...

I see incredible talent and craftsmanship when I look at what others have done.
