GM already makes a laser cut transponder key that is a separate fob/key but the same designed laser cut key as the Camaro, it is currently in use on the 2014 Trucks/Suvs

As I stated I am no professional on this matter at all, I had never seen a laser cut key that was not switch blade before now, but I seen the pic that was posted so I guess they can. Brain Fart on my part.

It would be nice if there were an option to upgrade to a keyless ignition system instead of a separate key and remote. I am keeping my setup. My knee is nowhere close to the fob while driving.

I figured I would get this response, allow me to explain. I sit very low (5'10'' frame) I have the steering wheel fully telescoped out and down. when ever I back into a parking spot (habit from all the safe driving courses for work) I can't see the lines that separate the parking spots. so I have to adjust the mirrors for driving and parking every time. I have driven cars that auto adjust when reversing and they tilt down automatically. This is a personal preference I am sure. My point being that the key issues is a mole hill being made into a mountain. and they can find other, more beneficial changes to these amazing, beautiful machines.

My cat is at the dealership now getting some warranty work done. I hope they don't swap my keys while it's there. I'm 6'-4" and my knees don't come anywhere close to hitting the key.

ok while this is completely out of scope for the thread at hand, it took me all of 2 minutes to find a solution to this "problem" you have:

I will keep my current switch blade keys but seeing as this should also be a problem with my 2014 Chevrolet Malibu it has the same key. On my Camaro I have never hit the key with my knee but my Malibu it happens weekly.

This is overcompensation by GM, plain and simple. The significant and severe issues they had with ignitions caused them to look at their whole product line for any issues similar, and they found 2 or 3 cases out of over 1/2 MILLION Camaros, and probably 100 to 200 MILLION miles traveled with no serious injuries. And they jumped on it to say, "See how up on things we are now. We've changed!" So they will spend $20-$40M on this recall...but to them it's money well spent just for the PR.

The chance this will happen to me? Absolutely NIL! My knee (or any other part of my body besides my hand when turning it on or off) has never touched the key. It hasn't even touched the little ring with my other keys that hangs down maybe 2.5-3".

I like my switchkey, and I'm keeping my switchkey. Period. They can pry it out of my cold, dead hand!

Chevy issues recall of every Camaro 2010+

Didn't see it posted, apologies if this is a double up of someone else's post....

https://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motora...134054747.html

Looks like they're being super cautious in light of the Cobalt/Solstice ignition switch issues.....

This sucks, I have my car in the dealership for something else right now. They better not perform this BS without asking me first. I def do not want this done.
