And why won't the base model 2016 Camaro 2.0T be ready at launch ??

Maybe I missed it, but why won't the base model be ready ??

Is it a parts issue, software issue, development issue, or what ??

I can't remember any new vehicles coming out, without the base model.

I'm sure that they are going to lose a lot of sales, right at the beginning,
& maybe customers will go else where.

I just hope, that it's not some sort of 'marketing' strategy...

GM is waiting for the EPA/SMOG software update from VW first before they can go to production.

Wouldn't that already be set up since the engine is already in the ATS and CTS?

There are probably going to be twice as many 2L turbo engines in the Camaro as there are in the ATS & CTS combined.

This same engine is already in the ATS, which is also an Alpha chassis vehicle, & also the new Malibu, & Buick Regal / Verona, so there really shouldn't be anything different.
Maybe they were at a capacity level, & probably needed to double the output,
as the 2016 Camaro 2.0T is going to sell like 'hotcakes'...

Yep. I was all set to purchase an LGX 1LT....But I'm having second thoughts based on all the great things I have been hearing about the 2.0T. Loved Al. O's "Rock Star" comment about this engine.

I guess it will all come down to the test drive(s).

Got a quote - turbo will be about 1300 less than the v6 with same options.

No much of a difference....but that would almost pay for mrc

In reality, it is VERY hard to launch a car for production. The I4 is likely being held back to add more focus on the top two sellers, the V6s and V8s. The I4 will follow after the major launch same as the convertible.

It just removes a level of complexity from the initial launch. It's also an indicator that GM doesn't expect the I4 to be a huge seller. And it also probably fits with the ramp up to full production.

Oh, and it is likely the least profitable of the 3 engines so no real need to hurry on that, but that's more of a guess.

I'm sure it's a lot of moving parts to set up for the launch of a new line. But they've been doing it for 100+ years. I think they should have it from day one. Especially with all the hype for that motor.

It's a mystery....I don't see any rhyme or reason for what is announced, what is revealed, what is available, what is or is not going to be made....Maybe it's a combo of a tortuous reveal/non-reveal/maybe/wait/who knows...and they're getting out what they can, when they can...

It's a head scratcher...the T-4 is a car they said they will build, but no-one has seen or driven one...and it was announced at the reveal....

Other models, ZL-1, Z/28(?), 1LE(?) have been "seen", but not even mentioned to exist or be manufactured at any time in the near future...

Consider yourself lucky....expect hear about what does not exist yet, but don't expect to hear anything about what you see....

Yes ... they do have a lot of experience. And I bet that experience is what led them to decide to wait a few months before building the T4 cars.

So you think that the V6 & V8 Camaros delayed by months (resulting in it being a 2017 model), just so that there can be a turbo4 available at launch? Or would you rather fast track the production ramp-up of the turbo4 engines & accept the financial and quality costs that comes with that? Or maybe GM should cut the LTG's availability in other (more expensive & profitable) cars so that base Camaros can be built with it?

All thats assuming that there is a production constraint on the engine. It could also be that, given the demand & limited production capacity at the plant ... it makes much more financial sense to build V6 & V8 cars for the first few months. It takes time to ramp up production of a new car, and its a pretty safe bet that the turbo4 is the least profitable car in the lineup. So when there aren't that many build slots per day, why should GM fill them with cars that won't make as much money as a V6 or SS?
