It's really that much better? From your description it's a totally different beast.

I know there are the hardcore M6 guys but I wonder if they drove the A10 like you have, they would make the switch.
It is really night and day in my opinion. Hard to fathom that a single transmission could make so much more use of the same engine with the same horsepower. The throttle response is insane and like has been mentioned, just a slight press of the throttle and this thing gets angry, yet is as docile as can be on the streets and highway. Simply remarkable.

I agree, there are a number of things this Automatic cannot match in comparison, such as the ability to Rev the engine without the car accelerating and the sounds it makes under rev matching in my opinion cannot be matched by the A10.

As far as times at the track go, its all about the driver and skills. Randy Pobst for Motortrend at Buttonwillow was almost a half a second a lap faster around the track in the manual versus the auto. Tells you something about the driver, the auto should have been faster. Same for drag racing.

I decided to go M6. I know there is no way I could outshift an auto trans equipped car in a race situation. But seriously I dont street race anymore, boy I used to. So for me, the M6 gives some interaction with the car. Plus its about $3500 cheaper.

That extra cost was a big factor for me, too. Not so much the price for the A10 itself, I'm used to autos being an upcharge - but I really begrudge paying double the tax, which is 100% theft already. But I also wanted the driving experience and interaction of the manual.

Back in the "olden days", when a '69 RoadRunner 383, auto was fun. But I grew up with manuals and cannot ever see having the only sports car as an auto. Maybe have one of each would be the only way I could go.

All of my sports cars have been manuals since I was 26. I love to see what I can do. I already know what an auto can do.

It's also much cheaper to fix if it ever breaks too, for someone that plans to keep the car for many years, especially if it's getting raced and beat on regularly.

I have not driven the A10; however, it appears to be amazing technology and much quicker than the M6. I simply enjoy the feel of shifting and making the decision of what gear to be in while driving. Shifting down to 3rd at 60 MPH and blowing past a Mustang or Challenger just makes me smile.

Haha!! Once I saw you were in Prosper and that one disappeared I knew you snagged it! Good for you, beautiful car.

I have a two week annual training with the Army the last few weeks of June, once I get back I will look for my ZL1. I am fairly open to color choice, but would really like PER, nav, and carbon hood (a10 of course) so I will see what is available then. My S3 in my unit works for gm so might be able to get a good deal, otherwise Bomnin Chevrolet in Miami FL is advertising some killer deals. Told my wife that we could fly to Miami and take a trip back, just the two of us stopping at a few beaches along the way, and it would be broken in once we got home. If I can find a good deal around here then great, but most have a sunroof and I am 6'1" with a long torso so not sure about that.

Anyway, good find and we may have to catch up at some point. I have already informed the wife that I will not be able to leave it stock, but she already knew. I have not left ANY of my vehicles stock for very long!

Much easier in the A10 (or the A8 for that matter). Simply grab the left paddle very quickly twice holding it after the 2nd pull and the tranny will immediately go to the lowest possible gear given your speed at the time and away you go as you hammer it at the second pull plus a part of a second. Way easier and faster than pushing in the clutch, grabbing a gear and letting out a clutch.

Just tap the accelerator and it revs on it's own without increasing speed.

Same goes with the A10 except 9 more decisions to make and 4 different ways to do it.

Tap the accelerator and it goes immediately to 4k rmp. Hold the shifter back and you'll be at >6k rpm or ratchet the shifter to the desired gear or simply stomp on it with a cup of coffee in your right hand and it drops on it's own.

Have two manual cars now and a history of manual sport cars. I even wrote an article in a Porsche magazine about the merits of a manual in this age of PDK's and automatics and the joys of a perfect heal toe downshift. Still, almost 3k in on my A10 ZL1 and I prefer it. I almost always shift manually with the A10. Way fun.
