Looking at BFG Comp T/A 2 AS - How is the sidewall protection?

Hey all,

New member here . It's time for me to replace my OEM's summer tires on my ZL1 and I'm currently considering the BFG Comp T/A 2 AS tires. I am concerned about sidewall wheel protection though... For those who have used the BFG's, how does the sidewall protection compare to the OEM's?

Thanks!

I would say the rim protection is about the same as the Goodyears, which is not so great in my opinion. I managed to curb rash two of my wheels right past the rim guard on the stock tires, although I can't say in might not have been worse without them.

As far as the BFG's, if buying for mostly street use, you won't be sorry.
They hook great in low temps, and don't throw stones all over your car !!

HTH

ZL1 Maniac,

Thank you so much for the image, it really helps getting an eyes-on perspective. I’ve managed to avoid wheel damage and the OEM’s tires saved my butt once (sidewall took the rub, not my wheel, phew). Also, great to know about the stones. I am battling that right now in my location. We've had a lot of storms this year and the street cleaners have been slow to start. Scared to get a detail and find all the little stone damages…

Stunnah,

Yes, I am referencing the summer-only tires that come equipped with the vehicle.

I asked that because I run the BFG's Comp 2 A/S and have fallen in love with this tire...It does offer great rim protection, is quiet, has great traction in all seasons, comfortable ride, and does not pick up any debris...I needed an A/S tire because my car is a DD, I would guess that the summer tire will be much like the OEM tires with a softer compound...

All,

I really appreciate the feedback. You've equipped me with the knowledge I needed. BFGs will be my new set of tires.

Thanks!

Hey, if only somebody that knows me felt this way...

Yeah Lunacy, Stunnah is one of the guys here that made up my mind to get the BFG's, and he's spot on about them.

For street use I don't think you can beat the performance and VALUE....(flamesuit on)

You'll love em !!!

So, interesting development... I can't find the rears anywhere. Contacted my dealer and they called their tire distributor - no dice. I then called a local Discount Tire and they called the manufacturer directly. The manufacturer informed DT that the rears did not have an ETA for manufacturing...

Can anyone here give me any leads? Am I missing something here?

Nope, there is another thread here showing a huge backorder on these tires. Some are speculating that BFGoodrich might be ceasing production of them (I hope not, but it seems likely at this point)

I have been saying the same thing for a year now. You really cant beat that tire for its intended purpose.
