Edit: actually, a few talk about right after the drivetrain warranty of 60K being a great place too. But I'm not hearing that here.

I had the AFM tuned-out fairly early on but I've logged 181k miles of daily driving without issue.

I'm closing the books on AFM lifters being the 'biggest disaster in GM history.' 18 posts with a few ticking issues. And lots of good stuff. No one walking around dealers in sandwich boards while their car sits in a service bay waiting on, the "$10,000 AFM rebuilt engine fail", no one winning in a class action suit and no one pushed their Camaro over a cliff.
Thanks, folks.

My early stock '10 2SS L99 has never had an engine problem or lifter noise Ever.
72,000 miles now. I believed in changing the oil often on all my collector cars as well as this SS. I just changed it again for the 20th time in almost 15 years. I've found that the only people complaining about L99 are guys that have never owned one.

My oil life has read less than 10% enough times to get me banned from this forum. I just stay light on the gas and I will put a half of a quart of oil in to hold me over until I can change it. |

13K-ish on the 2010 L99, no problems yet.
The oil gets changed regularly, but time gets it before mileage. I did have a co-worker who bought a then-new 2012 Chevy truck with the 6.2 with DoD and he knew nothing about cars, so he let the dealership do all his oil changes and maintenance. He was a QC manager, so he was diligent in taking it in for regular checkups. I told him after the warranty period was up to get a tune to get rid of DoD. He didn't get it tuned. Then, about 40K miles into ownership and after the warranty period of course, the valve train took a crap on him causing engine damage. He got it rebuilt by the dealership, naturally, and then got a tune to get rid of DoD and as far as I know, he never had a problem the rest of the time he owned the truck. As far as wide-spread DoD engine issues, I'm not aware of any more except for the ones reporting them here.

Here's some more info I found about what causes the AFM/DOD lifters to fail.
