me too!

ive never owned one. only a few camaros, but would have love to own one.

my borther always tell me a story about a time in 87 when he and his freinds were standing around at the end of his steet talking cars, he had a cam and his buddy owned a GT at the time and antoher guy had a monte carlo SS and whose car was the fastet.

then one of the guys friends pulled up in a Grand National and he siad that it became like silent movies. all the chatter stop. everyone knew who the king of the hill was, the GN. it would have kiked all they cars asses, no problem.

then i read that in those days, the GN was the fastest GM car, and would have even eaten an 87 Vette for lunch.

true. if one trubo is good, then 2 turbos are better.

would have loved to see the GN with twin turbs

wuold have really been a screamer as they dont build stock like that anymore. it came with things that would only come as bolts ons today or special order. its as if GM created the GN just to run 1/4 miles with, like the one above. c'mon, a V-6 running in the low 11's? hard to beleive. but it was also a roomy everyday car too, you could move your whole house furntiture and all in its trunk.

speaking of twin turbos....how 'bout twin turbos blowing thru a supercharger?

make the camaro run in the mid 9's with 1021hp!!

for those with serious money...

I see and hear both sides but one thing all are missing........There is no way to make a 6 cyl sound as good as a V-8, just can't be done. I know there are lots of cool sounding V-6's out there but they still don't have that V-8 Rumble. Thats what I like! I think GM and all manufactures need to get off their a** and find a way to make 400+ HP in a V-8 and get 40-50mpg.

Ya......The GNational was a bad ass car! but it lack low end power.

I nearly traded in my 2010 SS for a 996 911 Turbo but didn't for a couple of reasons why I didn't. The main reason is that even though the car pushes out both over 400hp and torque, it felt weaker than the Camaro. Why? Because a V8 just has so much natural power that you can really feel it. This is why super cars, and companies like Mercedes, BMW, etc...use V8s and V10s for their massive power. Forced induction is used to bring make the power even more over the top, but it's the natural power that really gets you going.
As the old saying goes:"No Replacement for Displacement!"

????

dont really understand the comment here?

anything that can eats GT-500's for a snack, cant be too soft off the line.

cant run low 11's if you cant get off the couch too fast.

maybe you talking low end like the first 30 feet?

not to mention that the GNX was a tractor trailer size. how many cars could you move your house with that can run 11s?

imagine if the GNX was much lighter car? may low 10s? from a V-6!!

i will agree that a 6 dont sound like a 8, but so what? you can pull in late at nigth withouth waking all the nieghbors up?

i actually think taht Buick is expermenting with bringing the Grand National back?

just look at the 2011-12 Buick CX

it only a 4 cyl with twin turbos and make 255 HP. not bad for a 4 cyl

i myself like a car with Turbo in it. you get more power for the cylinders when its needed on the high end, but it save gas becasue it not always working like a supercharger is. less wear and tear on everhitng, engine, belts, etc

only give up is lagtime to spool up. time it take for the exhaust to rev up the trubines inside the turbo, but they dont spool at normal everyday driving speeds so it save gas, and soon when gas will $5/galoon, it isnt cheap.

I'd love to hear car manufacturers give a reason for not trying this.

you will never see a 400hp V-8 car that gets 40-50 mpg

at least not on conventional gas.

maybe on electric or natural gas, but def not on pump gas (obviously talking about the "equivalent cost" here as they are different kinds of "fuels" ie., like getting 40 miles on the same cost of electricity or natrual gas you would get for the price of a gallon of pump gas)

too much displacement, it takes a lot of air/fuel spray to fill all those cyls

Direct injection,
something small on the order of 327 ci motor
small'ish twin turbo's (to minimiza lag and optimize efficiency),
a 3.23 rear gear (hot rodders can always gear it down)
6 or 7 sp manual or
7 sp auto (true dual clutch type tranny-DSG),
curb weight 3400lb,
IRS (or SRA if necessary to keep the weight down...Ford figured out how to make it handle), low cd,

This type of setup with enable you to tune it and instantly pick up 50-80rwhp (hence, aftermarket friendly), knock down crazy mpg (30+) with the efficiency of a small motor, DI, and small turbo's, and with a nice power to weight ratio, and close ratio gearing in the tranny, very quick acceleration. "think a more powerful, yet more efficient BMW 335i" in the form of a camaro.

For those that know, an JB4 335i will run 12's (picking up 60-80rwhp over stock with tune only), and those guys are still knocking down 30+mpg in crusing conditions...no reason a small LS based twin turbo DI motor in a platform in the 3400lb range couldn't do the same.
