Meanwhile only 7 years ago it was *very* impressive when the 2011 Camaro and Mustang were running mid 12 stock and the ZL1 was hitting 12 flats stock.

Yeah kinda along the same lines how I wasn't impressed by the ZL1 being not much faster than the GT350 in the H2H despite having a huge HP/TQ advantage.

I think the problem is you're getting ZL1 0-60, slightly faster 1/4 for likely a lot more money. This will slot above the GT350R which already has $5k premium on the ZL1 and wasn't available w/o a massive ADM for like 3 years after launch. It's an impressive machine, but doesn't outclass the competition, which most expected. Most were expecting this to be Ford's Demon killer (Ford Performance's Marketing Manager literally said "Venom kills Demons"), so the actual numbers are a hell of a letdown.

Well, Ford did spend a year yelling.............Venom kills Demons or whatever it is. So yea...........people were expecting better than this. I know I was. But, it's whatever. Just another car. I don't care too much about the DCT. I would of liked the A10 in it. Over 800 hp. CF goodies. Wrap that up in a $75k package. I'd be all over it.

Did you really expect this car to be a Demon killer, really? We are talking 9-sec 1/4 mile times here as the bar. In a multi -purpose street/track/strip vehicle.

We don't know how fast this 500 will be, all we know is it will be faster than 11:00s, could be 10:99 or 10:50s, whatever the number is I think of what it will do with a set of DRs out back and yes it will decimate the direct competition.

Anyone remember that when the '13 GT500 was teased it was stated to have "600+ HP" and we got 662. So, this one being teased at "700+ HP" I can't help but imagine it'll end up with slightly higher HP than the LT5.

Here is a video from Ford Performance:

https://www.facebook.com/FordPerform...5532856782290/

Take a look starting at about 0:17, they show the dash, and just below the digital spedometer the check engine light is on (the amber wrench symbol).

Ouch. Ford should really edit that video and remove the check engine light. Is that an easter egg or just a mistake?

It seems that Ford Performance put a lot of effort into making the car a serious "triple-threat" car. I think it will out-perform the ZL1 and offer circuit performance similar to the ZL1 1LE. I don't think it will completely annihilate the ZL1 though, as the Camaro has the weight advantage.

But FP revised the front suspension geometry (even over the GT350), revised the entire cooling system (for track use), spent a lot of effort on aero and vehicle dynamics calibration (taking a lot of real lessons-learned from the GT, GT race car, GT350 and GT4 race car).

Should be a very impressive car!

One article indicates the final hp number will be published in the Summer. I'm guessing it will come in around the 750 hp mark, but at 4,225-lbs it will be a portly beast compared to the ZL1. This leaves the window open for GM to drop in the LT5 (bumped to 775 hp of course) and the same DCT for a last hurrah for the 6th gen Camaro.

Is this life? Did I expect the car to live up to the Ford Performance-generated hype? Yes, yes I did. I was wondering why you've been so obtuse, but the sig makes sense... Flame on dude, flame on.

Enjoy 2nd place behind the GT for the SS, and now 3rd place behind the HC and 500 for the ZL1

If there is a markup then it won't fit into my financial plan either. I will not pay any markups.

This is what I don't like. The only thing that makes sense as to why they would do this is to keep the costs down. That is probably also the reason it doesn't have the A10.
