Why would you want to have a sports car automatic?

Why would you spend all that money and get a manual? You are paying for speed, and it's slower.

On a road course? Isn't the zl1 built for the track not the 1/4? Just playing devil's advocate.

I assume it's meant for. . . people that want an automatic. Just preference.

I see no problem with an automatic. I prefer them for versatility; However it looks like (hopefully) my zl1 may be a manual.

F1 cars use paddle shifters like the auto ZL1, and you could say they race on tracks Besides the fact most high end sports cars (GT-R, 911 Turbo, Lambo Aventador, Ferrari 458 Italia) come with or only as autos, its all about options. Chevy gives you the option to choose unlike Ford

Any addition to everything above some people are not comfortable with stick shifts or will be using the ZL1 as a daily driver in a city sitting.

i know but i like feeling what my motor is doing, nothing like the clutch and the shifter choosing how fast you wanna be, i like having control of everything i know slap shifts cool and all but there is nothing like pushing that clutch in and dumping it...

ive been looking to buy a zl1 and everytime they are automatic... so thats where this topic started... haha but ill just wait until i find the right one without ordering one

a f1 car is completely different from a 580 hp car from factory an f1 car is built around the driver a zl1 isnt,.. if anyone could buy a f1 they would!, f1 car is sick and there is no way a manuel tranny would work for one because the sure speed and quickness you have to shift one

No one mentions this, put if you have a manual trans, in the back of your mind, you know that one day (sooner or later) you are going to have to pull the tranny to replace a bunch of parts.

The automatic owners don't have to be concerned with this: pilot bearing, throwout bearing, clutch fluid, clutch/pressure plate, overheated clutch fluid, clutch pedal sticking to the floor. accidental "drop" of the clutch, clutch "smell". clutch chatter. synchronizer failure. 1 to 4 skip-shift mechanism. other people "dropping the clutch" or racing it when you have to leave it at a dealership....etc.

With automatic, its possible you wont ever need anyone to disassemble your car for a long time if you drive it normally. To me that's the real reason folks reach a point where they avoid manual trans cars.

All of the cars you listed use much more sophisticated transmissions that shift incredibly fast and give (in most cases) complete gear-choice control to the driver. I'm not dogging on the auto, I just doubt it will be as fast on track as the manual. Nothing wrong with that.

I agree. On the other hand, the average driver with no track experience is going to put up super, super slow times in either car. The zl1 is far more capable than the average driver.

Boosted motors present a problem stop light to stop light. I'm still trying to figure out my 6 speed ZL1. There is no way I would want to clutch/shift my 67 twin turbo motor. The reverse manual smooths things out and makes it way easier to control the power. Maybe some day the transmission will evolve into a full functioning street able auto/man with clutch.
