Florida people, if you can leave, you should leave. Any hurricane will leave destruction in its wake. This is a particularly destructive storm. Make sure your insurance is up to date and get out of there.

God Bless Florida! My mother and my retail store is in Ft.lauderdale at this time and my mother is disabled and not able to evacuate. She is in Coconut Creek, My store is in Tamarac and my employees just closed down till a unknown date at this point. Its very stressful knowing there is nothing i can do but sit and wait here as i am in NYC and the flights to get out they jacked up 4x the amounts even a week ago. Same on you shit airlines that did that crap! I was there when Hurricane Andrew hit in 92' and did the clean up and restoration services the next day. If this is even near what Andrew was then much of the southern parts of Florida is doomed i hate to say. I seen houses in half, looting, cars flipped over and the stench left from the soaked rugs in the houses with roofs off never left my brain to this day...

Houston was criticized for not ordering evacuations sooner. But the rationale was being stuck in no-mans land was worse than staying put...Florida's hurricane is different with the winds and storm surge, but I think this evacuate by car and highway may backfire... I doubt the logistics are even do-able....Too many cars, too few highways, not enough time, not enough gas, etc, plus go where??....I hope it works out and everyone stays safe, but this highway/car evacuation I hope gets studied for it's effectiveness and is ordered in a more timely fashion.... If people get screwed by the storm out on the open highway trying to evacuate, the next time all evacuation orders are given they will fall on deaf ears for sure... Good luck to everyone....Follow your gut and heart to do what's best. I hope everyone survives no matter what you choose to do. |

The Westward shift isn't good, I don't like the idea of a 4-6 foot storm surge.

My brother just left from where he lives north of Savannah for the outer banks. He's on back roads and says if he hits major traffic he may just turn around and ride it out. These things suck. I went through 3 when I lived in southeast Virginia in the 80s.

My daughter is down there in Leesburg with 3 of my grand sons. And my sons mother in law & my sons step daughter.
But then there a lot of us up here that have relation going thru this in Texas & Florida and some of the other states that these Hurricanes are going to hit. And right behind Irma is another one. Fires in California & the burning in Oregon & Washington. This crap is just unbeliavble.

I think I may lose my 2 new sheds. Hopefully nothing else. Think they are predicting a cat 1 by the time it gets to me near Tampa.

I think the Pensacola/Panama City region will be fine for the most part. Still going to want to set up sandbags and shutter windows though. We're going to bug out to northern Missippi if it starts to look worse though. I'm sure traffic will suck no matter where we go though.

I think Governor Scott has done an excellent job of getting gas into our state by waving weight rules and police escort of semi fuel tankers when necessary.

This is one time that I'm glad the forecast models were wrong! Irma continues to track west and the eye is currently over the outer banks of Cuba. I feel sorry for the residents of Cuba but hoping Irma continues it's westerly track and is weakened significantly by Cuban landfall.
Be vigilant South Florida!
