Saving Your SS for the future??

Anyone foreseeing the 2010 SS to be a collectable and storing it? I watch all of these auctions and see 70s muscle cars going for tons of money. Who knows in 2040 what they could be worth without any mods or miles.

Im hoping one day too. 2010 Camaro was the first car that really left me with a tingle through my body. Its just such a good looking car. I paid my camaro in Full and Im hoping my next car would be something awesome (GTR Perhaps "I WISH" ) and storing my camaro while modding it. Only time will tell. Otherwise still a beautiful car to have in storage.

Exactly. I've said before that I often daydream about my early 2010 SS/RS going up on the auction block at Barrett Jackson...

"You'll notice the GM Performance Division badge under the hood, indicating that this is indeed a pre-government bailout car. A lot of history in this rare find fellas!"

There used to be doubts about the 3rd gen going up in value and now if you can find an original mint IROC it will cost you a good $17-22k. I mean a flawless one. That's about the same or more then they cost new. I think every camaro will keep its value 20 years away or longer as long as it is original and mint. I am babying mine not to sell it in 20 years but to enjoy it good as new when I retire.

I'm watching Mecum auctions as I type... A '67 Camaro Nickey went for $400,000 and a '69 COPO Camaro ZL1 went for $305,000. Those are really special cars. A completely stock '70 Corvette LT1 convertible (of which there were less than 100 made) only went for $45,000. Makes me want to drive, since staying stock won't gain me anything...

I am not saving mine for the future , in the sense of putting it away and storing it. I am however keeping all documentation for it and I have a scrap book for it as well. I put things in it from our club events and different pics. I am going to give it to my son one day and I want him to have all of the history that goes with the car when he gets it. The car and my son were born 21 days apart , last june and my son rode home from the hospital in the car so it's gonna be a cool story for him one day. I don't know or care if it will be a collectible in the future , we are gonna just enjoy it and create as many memories in it as possible!

While I don't see myself selling my Camaro anytime soon, I'm not going to worry about the miles I put on it because it might be worth the same $35,000 I paid for it in 30 years. If in 30 years it's worth a ton and I still have it great, but I'm not going to worry about it now.

Mass Production

I think cars in general from recent time periods are far too mass produced to have much collectability in the future. In the 70s, you're talking about cars that were only built by the 100s (if that) vs. 1000s.

Buy it and drive it for you!

You'll have to wait longer than 2040. I'd assume a 29 year-old Camaro in 2040 will be about as collectible as a 1982 Camaro is today. Maybe by 2050 or 2060. It'll be interesting to see if a car today could survive 40 or 50 years like today's classics have, given all the electronics and computers.

Actually there were over 200,000 1ST Gen. Camaro's produced every year
( 67-69 ) and there were only 128,000 +/- 5th Gens produced last year. So using that logic the 5th Gens will be more valuable in 40 yrs than the 1st Gens are today. Only time will tell , but I believe that these cars will have a collectability to them in the future.
