I know people who made 50K a year and are financially independent, live in a nice house, travel where they want, drive a nice car, paid for kids college...I also know people who make 500K a year and are broke...can't afford to pay attention.... so.. do what you want to do in life, and learn personal finance.... my wife teaches...I am a garage sale/ auction addict..

Started in computers in 1980 working on main frames, ATMs and other computer systems as a computer Technician. Worked my way up over the years to an EVP of IT/operations for a regional bank. Heck of a lot of hard work.

I'm 28 and started in accounting but my company has been transitioning me to finance for the past half year. My work is about 70% finance and 30% accounting now. A pay raise came with the switch which was nice. But I get to do work that changed hands so many times because people either couldn't handle it or thought it was too much work. I could handle the long working hours at my age but I can see why the old timers jumped ship.

+1 minus the EVP. Started June 1, 1980 as a keypunch/computer operator. Now an IT trainer: show people how to troubleshoot and solve problems before they happen, show them how things work and get paid for it. Good enough to buy a new SS/RS vert, so good enough. Oh and a Ph.D. thrown in for good measure which cost almost exactly as much as the car, and 5 years of work in addition to work.

I'm 40 years old now and when I was in high school at age 13 I started working for my cousins at their bar washing dishes and when I turned 18 started to tend bar until I was done with school. I got a job selling cars at a Ford dealer for about a year until I decided to buy my own bar. I ended up owning 3 different bars at once for about 6 years until I got divorced and sold them all. I then got into the mortgage business until that went to shit. I now own a used car lot in Pittsburgh PA. with about 50 vehicles. So anyhow I have busted my ass for most of my life and now I have decided I deserve the nicer things in life and I'm getting them. LOL
