I had some mysterious CEL's when I was using it, none since I stopped.

No logging but if you have tuning software you can pull up the tables that show spark timing maps vs. coolant temp and you will see that on cold start timing is retarded and more fuel is added, which to our delight makes for a louder exhaust note when combined with the open valves of the NPP exhaust. The engine runs in Open Loop and use some predefined tables and MAP sensor for their calculations until the coolant temp reaches about 140 degrees and the O2 sensors warm up. Then it switches to closed loop and uses the feedback from the O2 sensors to calculate the air/fuel ratio. From an emissions standpoint the manufacturer is also trying to heat up the catalytic converters as fast as possible.

So, I agree with you on the timing and efficiency but we are talking about a cold start, which is harder for the engine to do hence less timing and more fuel initially. Once the engine is warm, you will notice when you fire it back up it won't sound nearly as aggresive as cold start since it is not running the fuel rich cold start routine.

It is version V77R1, I contacted Range directly and confirmed with them that this is in fact the lateste FW. Still throws CELs, not really needed anyway, I stopped using mine.

that's disappointing...wonder if there is something unique with Gen6 AFM that makes their device throw codes...

just for my personal understanding AFM (Active Fuel Management) is the same as DOD (Displacement On Demand) Switching the LT1 V8 from 8 active cylinders to 4 correct?

I have 2000 miles on my v6 and the range has never thrown a single code.

Just curious if anyone has heard anything about Range fixing the V8 issues with the AFM Range device. I contacted them waiting to hear back, I would like to start using it again on road trips, that is when I notice AFM switch over, it is annoying as hell on the highway!

I ordered one last week and have driven it a few times with no CELs activated. Total trip length maybe only 50 miles though, so if it takes a certain number of cycles, I may not have hit that yet. I keep a code reader in the car in case it does set them, I can document them and send them to Range, or worst case ask for a refund.

I tuned my 11 SS Vert, but that was before they came out with the Range, and I really didn't want to void my warranty this time, so I am hoping it keeps working!

What FW version is listed on the box for your Range device?

I believe the latest version is 7.8R1. I've talked to Range quite a lot about this. The CELs I get is the transmission control module. They told me that the Gen 6 has so much electronics that there are some timing problems when starting up. The Range will boot up while the car is still initializing some functions. The last recommendation is to plug in the Range after the car is started. There is also available on Amazon an ODB II cable with an inline on/off switch. This seems to work pretty well.

Here's the way they recommend clearing the CELs.:

I think mine is 7.71, was the latest at the time I purchased...I will have to try plugging it in after the car is started, maybe that will help. I only really want to use mine on long road trips with lots of highway driving.
