Question Affects of a Cold Air Intake?

What is the affect of a cold air intake on the sound of the engine, and the sound of the exhaust? Don't worry I am not asking about the affect on horsepower, or acceleration improvements, there are plenty of threads already asking about that. What I am wondering is just a cold air intake by itself how does it affect the noise/tone/volume of the exhaust, and how noticeable is induction noise over stock?

The exhaust noise is very suddle. To me the car will sound a little deeper but not louder. It's almost not noticeable. But on the other hand depending on the intake the induction sounds different because every now and then you hear a whistle and you can also hear the air rushing in some of them.

Why do you ask? Is there something your looking for in particular? It's really not going to change the exhaust but there will be a better tone from under the hood.

People say they hear a difference. I haven't noticed any change in sound at all. When your WOT you will hear a nice quick " sucking " noise from up under the hood but that's about it. Noise lasts for about half a second and it starts off the "pull". It's a wonderful sound, almost like a starting gun ... Lol

They sound a bit more throaty with the intake, I like it.

Here is how I would describe the difference of ours:

At idle, about the same.

When punching the accelerator a more audible intake sound.

At WOT and cruising a deeper throatier exhaust tone.

Hope that helps!

It's not a straight shot to your TB. The air is deflected up off the radiator, into the intake tubes, then goes through a filter before it ever gets to the tube to the TB. The ONLY intakes that might suck water are the ones that shoot the filter down through the hole where the water bottle is and even then you'd have to be driving in a foot or two of standing water. There's only two that do that. One of the Injen intakes and another one I can't think of at the moment.

My thoughts exactly! Most of the sound you here will be at a low RPM right when you floor it! Gotta love it

If you are old enough, you might remember the sound of a Holley 4 barrel when you get after it. My Cai has that type of sound when you hammer down.
Hope this helps.

Lol at the Internet myths!

No sir not at all ever, like axis said only the two he mentioned and you'd have to have that much water on the ground.
