Man and his dog perish in corvette.
http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/tex...sNYDailyNews11
"A 72-year-old man from Port Arthur, Texas, died inside his dream car when the lock system malfunctioned and he was trapped inside his 2007 Corvette with his dog, Leia. James Rogers and his pet both died of heat exhaustion earlier this week, police said. The accident is not uncommon for some Corvette models, owners say. A low battery or a low key fob battery can cause the locks to lock up. But there is a manual release on the driver's side that allows occupants to bypass the battery, according to owners' manuals." Very sad news, prayers to his family.

Makes me wonder why it took so long for someone to notice he was in distress. It has been freaking hot and humid here lately, so I'm not suprised the temp rose so fast in his car.

The mechanical lever on the floor that manually unmatched the door is quite obvious but only if you are looking. I just wish he had checked the owners manual.

That's the first question I hear a lot of people ask when they find out how a corvette door is opened - How do you open it if the battery dies? I'm surprised it never crossed his mind being an owner.

Sad part is that no one noticed. Its not like he was in an underground parking garage.... Someone must have seen him!
Also, can't you use the metal part of seat belt to break the window? I can't imagine how long they were inside to pass out :( |

1rst thing I did was look for all the manual releases, when my battery died(trunk release was most obvious). And you can't jump start the darn thing as well(messes up computer), better removing the car battery connections and charging/replacing battery itself, then starting it again once everything's re-installed.
..sad news instead. |

Button to open the door and manual release location. Am I the only one who reads the owners manual when I get a new vehicle? You learn some neat stuff.

When we bought our Corvette, the salesman pointed out to us all of the manual releases.
