Adding 1LE Rear Sway Bar to 2012+ Convertible Models

Note this is for 2012+ Convertible cars. Coupes and prior to 2012 models are different.

Difficulty scale 3/10

Tools Needed

Safety Glasses
*Make sure the exhaust is cooled before starting. I used a fan to help cool down and also cool myself down as it was 90+ out
Gloves (nitrile or mechanics)
15mm Socket(s)
15mm Wrench (I used a gearwrench)
Allen Wrench to remove old end links
Air Ratchet
Ramps
Jack
ZL1 jack pad
Socket/Breaker bar to remove rear wheel lugnuts

Parts needed

2 - End Links Part - 22761221
1 Rear Sway Bar - 22786260

Comparison old bar vs new

You have to remove the rear wheels. I found this out after putting on the ramps. You cannot get the new end links into place with the wheels on.

Remove the sway bar bolts (15mm, 3 on each side) and remove the bar from the car

Install the new end links on each side. End links and new sway bar shown installed on pass side for reference.

Install sway bar, do not fully tighten the bolts. Then attach to the end link (you may need an extra hand to help it will speed things up) Thread the bolt. Next tighten all bolts, put wheel(s) back on, clean up and take for a test drive. Pretty simple install.

Removing the old end link

Other photos for reference (end link installed no bar, end link and bar installed (missing a bolt) the old end link)

Old bar

Off-topic question, but how is your undercarriage so clean??

And, do you lube it against rust? It looks oily.

It wasn't so clean when I started but it wasn't bad I only have 6700 miles. I basically did an APC wipe down. I then sprayed with fluid film (the oily residue) to help with any light surface rust
