I've heard the ZL1 and Z/28 will be rolled into one car and it's likely going to be the Z/28 with the LT4. Similar to the C7 Z06.

Definitely possible, in which case we might not get a ZL1 unless the Vette does get a ZR1.

As for CAFE and the LT4 being limited, considering their were only 2400 ZL1s sold in 2014, I don't think it would even affect GM's CAFE ratings.

As long as the price comes down to 65K, I'm still in the market.

Unless it is strictly Track, then I'm out.

I'm still optimistic about GM carrying the ZL1 again, so I hope your source is wrong.

And if the dude on LS1-Tech forum is not full of Sh!t, he apparently has seen the ZL1 CAD drawings - for whatever that is worth.

I don't see it coming first year, but hopefully we see the performance models out a year later.

What I do hope we see year one, is a 1LE like package for the V6 and SS models.

I'd guess (hope) late summer 2017 ZL1.
First year production release and your high end performance model will not be seen together in model year '16.

they seem to definitely be testing it. And with Ford launching their HiPo versions relatively quick in terms of the 15, I would assume GM is doing the same. With a release in the second year I would say

The word on the street is that it's gonna mid engined. Maybe LT5? (TTV8)

One thing I know is we don't know until we know. Anything can happen and until GM starts revealing their plans it's all complete speculation.

I'm sure it will be cheaper. The current Z/28 is more of an engineering exercise. It demonstrated what the engineering team could do. They knew it would be a low volume car.

The LS7 was an expensive engine, and with the other standard parts, it made the whole car very expensive. I doubt the next gen car will come standard with carbon brakes or Recaros. Most likely, it will have MRC instead of the DSSVs, which will help reduce costs as well.
