SS vs ZL1
After the winter I'll be camming my ss and I'm shooting for around 475-490 rwhp. I was looking up zl1 dynos and it looks like they have ~480 rwhp. Who do you think would win

I'd say it depends on how the ss has its suspension set up. If the SS just spins or hops I'd give it to the zl1 but if the SS hooks and the zl1 is on stock tires I'd give it to the SS.

Win what?
On a road course, the ZL1 would hand you your ass. On a drag strip, I suppose it depends on whether we're talking A6's or M6's, what tire each car is on, and each driver's ability. |

I had a 482 rwhp head cam SS. It was an awesome car. My opinion is camming these LS3's has it's trade offs. They make great power over 3000 rpm. They lack torque down low to get the car moving. They actually lose a little low end torque when cammed.
My ZL1 is bone stock and there is no question that it's faster than my SS was, in a straight line. It's not a ton faster, but it's faster. They are totally different cars. That's no slam on the SS. I think the SS is an awesome car. |

The SS if its on tires and you can drive your aZZ off! I would have no problem with a zl1 with my little cammed ls3, but I have a th400!

If you can get in the 480 rwhp range, then you have just managed to get as much Hp as the ZL1 motor has, and you matched it without a supercharger and by just adding a Cam. Gee why couldnt GM have just thought of that?? If you can get 160 hp gain by adding a just a cam wow. Is it possible to do by simply just adding a cam?.

You'll either realize you were wrong, or you don't know much about these cars. |

Adding a decent cam package to a LS3 (M6) SS along with full bolt-on's and a professional tune will net you 500whp. A L99 (A6) your looking at 470-480whp.. A cam install alone will not work, especially if you don't have the support modds.. Remember that raw numbers are only part of the equation. The ZL1 is heavier but the suspension is vastly superior to a stock SS. There are plenty of cammed SS's beating stock ZL1's but they have at least upgraded their suspension, tune, bolt-ons, cam and of course tires... |
