Muffler delete, shops say sounds terrible *UPDATE*

So I watched several vids of Camaros with the delete, and made up my mind to do it. I thought they sounded pretty good for the $ involved. Went to two muffler shops today and neither wanted to do it because they said it would sound like crap. One guy said he had done one and it was the "F'in dumbest thing he's ever done." The member consensus seemed to be a thumbs up, but now I'm not so sure.

UPDATE: Picked it up a little over 4 hours ago, wife and I have been cruising around. It sounds GREAT! There is NO reason not to do a muffler delete. A bit louder at startup, idle sounds stock. Get on the gas and it comes alive, nice deep roar without being obnoxious. Took it up to 85 on the highway top up and down, there is almost no drone. Top up and radio off, you barely notice it. The only negative, and it is slight, is when AFM kicks in. The tone is not pleasing, but neither is it irritating, just lets me know I need to get the revs up a bit. Cost was considerably more than most of you paid, $216, for stainless pipe, new hangers, and to have the tips rotated so the flare is on top of the tip, not inboard. If you are on the fence about this mod...DO IT! Thanks for all the advice guys!

Mine sounds great! I get compliments on the sound all the time. Best $100 you can spend. Those shops don't know what they are talking about.

Purely opinion, if you want it go somewhere where the guys opinion doesn't affect his ability to gain business.

It sounds great. They just want you to spend more and buy mufflers from them

are you paying for his opinion or his skills. Granted, if he is not interested in making money, he probably is not interested in doing a good job either.

Worse case scenario....... you chop them off, you don't like the sound, and you go with another option.....all of which involve not using the stock mufflers that you just chopped off anyway! Win win, just do it!

Wonder if hes talking about the tone of the muffler delete or the annoying decel pop.

I'd try it if I was you. My friend that manages a car-ex kept telling me to bring it in and do a muffler and resonator delete for 80 bucks. No, I went and bought a 3" cat back instead, with stock manifolds and convertors and it's not loud enough to annoy my grandma.

I should put the stock stuff back on with muffler delete for now.

One of the guys was a total a-hole, had my son with me and he's cussing up a storm in front of him. No way I'd let him touch my car.

I originally got my car and it had the a muffler delete done. Not only did I think it sounded good, just about everyone else did as well. Maybe these shops are thinking of 4 and 6 cylinders (which do, imo, sound like crap)

Sound is subjective. Just buy a delete kit and bolt it on yourself in 30 mins in your driveway.

you could just call shops and tell them what you want and save the hassle of face-to-face problems

Lmao a quote? I just called the muffler shop asked how much and set an appointment. $100. I brought quad tips to have welded on. I did use a recommended shop by the car people in my area though
