Everyone here has given great advice. I can't really add much more except remember that in the end, you are out there having fun. You aren't going to win any trophies or a million dollors to come in first....but the best feeling is when you beat a personal best lap time on a track or having a really clean run.

Join NASA and register with them, HPDE 1 - you will have an instructor ride with you and you can get some training basically for free, I am an instructor with NASA mid America
and I can tell you we have a great group of instructors here, plus you will get some great classroom instruction along with it
