My gen5 camaro got egged by humans when it only had 700 miles on it. I was working in a not so nice neighborhood at the time and I'm assuming they just picked the shiniest car in the lot. They threw 3 eggs at it, and while I drove right to the closest power wash station, the shells destroyed the paint. One egg impacted on the top of the truck deck, you could see a perfect oval where it initially struck, and claw marks about 3" long where the fragments slid across the paint. One spot was so deep you could even see bare metal. I knew eggs were bad, but never elected that much!

Man, that paint is done. Over. Finished. Time to get a new car. Maybe a Prius or something.

Glen, is this the same mixture you'd recommend for bug splatter? Or something else?

Damp dryer sheets work well for bug splatter on the front end or mirrors. Just be real careful to not to scrub or really rub, just dab with a slight wipe.

Wax makes all the difference. You just need a sacrificial layer, no matter how thin, to act as a buffer. A short while after my post yesterday about how I carry a towel incase of bird crap, I found bird crap on my car as I left work. It had hardened but it came off easily and flaked because there was wax underneath. No problem.

But now I need to wash the hood properly and add more wax. You can only wipe it down like that so many times.

It's also worth mentioning that my car as a crapload of swirl marks, so I am not super worried about wiping it. My main goal is just to prevent having a visible glob of clear coat eaten through from leaving it there too long. I've debated getting paint / clear coat correction, but my car is a daily and the main thing is that it looks brand new, glossy, and shiny from up to 5 feet away which is good enough.

Damage Report:

My 5 hour sit thankfully remained so I was able to sneak back home and wash the crap off. The clear coat is etched/stained and point of impact has the clear coat scratched.

Now it's a matter of is able to be corrected at a detailer or needs a full repaint?

Gosh dang that sucks! But it looks to me like a good detailer should be able to get that out. I'm sure someone with far more knowledge will respond but it doesn't look to terrible to me. That sucks though....good luck!

Chevyrules- It appear like the damage is mostly confined to the clear. I would definitely try a good detail shop first. They should be able to buff enough of the clear and get it all even without taking to much off. I think the one coat of wax you applied recently helped a bit from being far worse.

The difference between Camaro5.com and Camaro6.com:

Camaro5: You scrape your rims, fascia, etc and have damage clearly visible from 5 or more feet away, and it's ok because it's a daily driver. S*** happens and the main thing is you enjoy your car.

Camaro6: Somebody looked at your car the wrong way. Time to declare diminished value through insurance.

I guess the difference in mentality has to do with how old people's cars are. I'm super overprotective of my own ride, but I wouldn't really bat an eye at the damage the OP's car has. I would try to touch it up a little with some rubbing compound and polish, probably end up creating swirl marks and marring it up worse than it was to begin with, and call it a day.
