Winter storage
I park my car for the winter.
I was just curious if I was the only one to disconnect my battery. and put stabilizer in the fuel system and let it sit....on jack stands of course. Most people I know just put a battery tender on it and start the car every couple weeks. thoughts? |

I wouldn't put it on jack stands. Lots of comments around here about how the suspension needs to have a constant load on it and that tires these days dont get permanent flat spots.
I second Glen's comment - let it sit until spring. Don't start it up until then.

I'm going to put mine away today after work. This is what you'll need:
- fuel stabilizer (make sure you fill up your tank with gas and follow directions on the bottle) - battery tender - race ramps - https://www.amazon.com/Race-Ramps-RR...+flat+stoppers And throw some drier sheets in the exhaust and inside the car...they're supposed to keep mice away (not sure on that one). I've heard moth balls too, but I'm not doing that. The other thing is changing your oil. If it still looks clean, you should be ok. In that case just change it after the winter. If you want to be super cautious, change it before and after. It could become acidic over time during the storage, but I doubt it's going to cause any problems if you change it right away in the spring.

I use a battery tender, fuel stabilizer don't start until spring removal.

Mines tucked away for a long winters nap...I put steel wool in the tail Pipes to keep out the Mice and of course the dryer sheets
 in and around the car .[IMG]

Full tank of gas with stabilizer. Use a battery tender if possible. Also heard to over-inflate tires slightly. Dryer sheets help prevent critters from checking things out. Finally, if possible cover up for the winter. Have had six Corvettes and this all worked well.

I put the battery tender & car cover on about a week ago. I'm only at 1/2 a tank & no fuel stabilizer--is this really a big issue?

Full tank best. Can get moisture in the tank. Stabilizer helps when not being driven. Should add. Also, my gear head buddies shared that worsted thing that can be done while storing is starting up while in a deep freeze.

Battery tender is a no go for me. (no power in garage) So I just washed it, filled it with 93 and parked it. I'll be doing the dryer sheet/steel wool thing here pretty quick. Other than that, I don't know what else to really do other than check to make sure it doesn't get stolen. I don't know when winter breaks in Southern WI but I know when I lived in Pennsylvania, my Challenger was on the road in early April last year. Hoping for similar time frame this year.
