Hows the paint on your shock towers?
Looking at all the pictures I can find, It looks like the paint on everyones shock towers are smooth.
I was cleaning up the engine bay a bit and noticed mine looks the flesh of "thing" from fantastic 4. The driver side isn't as bad but still looks all cracked. I have other paint issues on the quarter panels that will be fixed on Monday but I'm starting to wonder if the quarter panels are not the only parts that may need attention, And I imagine it would be hard to get anything done about the shock tower's if this isn't normal. |

My passenger side looks exactly like that. As well my drivers side, it looks better but it's still rough. I have a back 2017 1ss. The dealership says it's howthe strut tower was formed in the casting mold process and there's nothing they can do. It was a rough cast and the machines painted over it.
Update this thread if they tell you different or offer a fix. My dealer would not cover it under warranty. |

Will do, But I'm pretty sure I'll get the same answer as you. If it's normal, there's nothing they can do... I wouldn't even know how they would fix that. A lot of grinding down?

Yep I would assume full disassembly, sand, puddy, and repaint. I bet it would be a pretty big job. Ill post some photos of mine in this thread once I have a second this weekend. Hopefully there are some others that have this problem as well.

That's what mine look like. It's a cast aluminum piece, I figured it was normal.

Same here....I've seen others that nice and smooth though. One thing that I'm wondering though if it's just SSs that have it? Or possibibly those with MRC? Prehaps its casted instead of stamped for a reason?
(2SS w/ MRC here)

I don't think having the MRC suspension is the culprit. It may have more to do with the color of our cars. Mine is mosaic black metallic, the OP's car looks like it's black and so is the color of second poster's car. I plan to show my car so I'm not sure what to do about this. It sounds like the cure could be worst than the disease.

Open your trunk and look at the intersections of the body panels, no sealcoating and plenty of room for water/salt to gather and cause rust. |

My white 2017 2SS has a lousy finish on both shock towers.

Mine is rough also, hyper blue. The shock towers are a cast part riveted on it seems, so that might be the issue. Cast parts are not flawless like stamped metal.

I have a loaner summit white 2017 1LT as my 2SS is getting paint work done on the quarter panel and door speaker rattle fixed... The shock towers are crappy on it too, So I guess this is normal. Disappointing really, We're paying $25K-$70K+ on these cars for it to have these huge eye sores once you pop the hood.

There's another thread in here somewhere on this. I believe it is because they are cast and not pressed to provide added strength. Nothing to be done about it, it's just the result of the manufacturing process.
