4 banger. Hope they put a better exhaust system on it, hate the sound of a stock V6 now, can only imagine what a 4 cylinder might sound like!

"...Camaro will be shrinking in size. According to sources the car is going to end up being similar in size to that of the BMW 3-Series on GM’s impending Alpha rear-wheel drive architecture."

Awesome!!

LOL, a V8 Automatic would have an 8-speed.

I can just hear the cars tearing down the track, and everyone would be thinking, "Sheesh, how many gears does he have to row through?!"

I think it will attract a wider audience, personally. I will keep my gen5 most likely.

Very interesting read.

The world is changing and with green initiatives, automakers have no choice but to adapt. I recall reading one of GMs CEOs saying that a 4 cylinder engine is extremely fuel efficient and with a turbocharger, they can get plenty of acceleration and keep the car "feeling powerful".

Times, they are a changin' folks.

Just because you can, doesn't always mean you should

There will never be any replacement for the sound of a grumbling V8

From the report:
"According to sources the V-8 engine option will be reserved for a premium model, perhaps SS or Z28 thanks to impending CAFÉ legislation".

Translation: the V8 will be in short supply (and high cost) due to the CAFE legislation. GM will no doubt push the 4 banger Camaro in large numbers to meet the CAFE of 36mpg by 2016. The last 4cyl Camaro was in 1982.
Folks, the future is bleak..keep the gen 5 SS going!!!

Don't under estimate the 2.0 turbo engines. We have a 2007 Sky RL, and with the turbo upgrade kit it puts out 290hp and 325tq. The car only weighs 3000 pounds with a 373 rear end. It will out run the V6 Camaro no problems, and take the LS3 off the line ...

What if all three engines come of the same Gen V block, say the 4 half gen5 V8.the V6 off the same gen5 V8. the 5.5 V8. all of them direct injection.Very cost effective maybe?

The current generation is still coming into its own with the convertible about to launch, as well as the Z28 on the horizon. No sense going all Chicken Little this far out .

The 5th Gen is awesome so I trust the 6th Gen will also be awesome. GM is doing some great things these days and I trust they'll continue to innovate and improve upon their products.

They won't all be derived from the Gen Vs.
