Top Issue Club - Please Welcome Me!

Well, it finally happened.

It was a very nice day in Houston so I decided to drop the top on my early 2011 convertible (27,000 miles) for the ride home from work. I lower the top and look back in the rear view mirror and see a large fold in the top fabric. I get out of the car and the top has shifted back toward the rear (or trunk).

The fabric has folded up against the rear trim and the front edge of the roof is about an inch or so further back than it should be. My logical thoughts are that the 5th bow has finally bent and the top retracting further back or deeper into the storage area.

When the top is up, the rear window is not sagging like I have seen on other top issues, but over the years of ownership - my top has slowly lost it's "tightness" compared to newer, just off the lot convertibles.

Anyone have the issue seen in the pictures?

Anyone have any good recommendations for top service in the Houston Area?

Thanks!

Thats a new one. I would think one of the cords that make it fold correctly has broken. I would have the dealer look at it and see if GM will step up. Is your 36k/ 3 year bumper to bumper up? Did you get a component coverage letter for your top?

I agree it doesn't look like a fifth bow issue. I had that happen twice. Looks like a bungee cord or strap underneath as come loose.

Haven't seen that either. Early 2011 doesn't have the corded top. Take it to the dealership and have them give an assessment. There are at least two strings on here for dealerships to use and avoid. May take a little research on your part but will be worth the effort. Let us know what they find.

Does your top look OK with the top up?

My top had this problem. The replacement top fixed the issue.

My new top has a lot of cords that they needed to drill holes and hook them to the frame.

MINE LOOKS THE SAME WHEN DOWN, THE TOP WHIPS AGAINST THE TRIM AT THE REAR WHEN DRIVING. THESE ARE THE WEAR MARKS IN MY TOP. ALSO SOME WRINKLES IN THE SAIL PANEL AS WELL AS ABOVE THE DRIVERS WINDOW.
I HAD THE 5TH BOW REPLACED 2 MONTHS AGO. LOOKED GOOD TILL ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO, THEN THE WRINKLES STARTED SHOEING AND I SAW THE TOP HITTING THE REAR MOULDING.
