If I read the article correctly these numbers are for NEW cars stolen from dealer lots; it doesn't include personal vehicles stolen.

"But thieves have found work-arounds; when 5 Camaros went missing from a South Carolina dealership in August, the swipers quickly ditched the ZL1, but disconnected the OnStar cellular equipment on four SS models — all in different colors — before getting away." And why the reference to the color? Does it really matter? A Camaro is a Camaro. Garaged and Locked...

The Camaro is not a Sports Car, I love my Sporty Car, but the Title is bothering me.

My insurance rate is not too bad, but they would not insure it unless I installed a gps alarm system. My insurance does not recognize onstar as being "anti theft" deterrent.

I spoke to an Onstar stolen car techie and asked the question, "can the car be tracked if it is not turned on and someone uses a roll back to steal it?"
"Yes, but . . . it depends," was the answer. It seems that after an amount of time, think it was 72 hours or so, the system goes on 'sleep mode' so as not to drain the battery. Don't lose sleep over it . . .drive it with a smile ! |

Onstar uses and needs satilite access ( can't be detectd in undergrounf/ in a garage) and only one commly placed transponder that theives can disable in a minute. Lojac use FM like radio frequncey ( can be detected under ground, in garages, containers, etc) PLUS Lojack has 2 radomly installed transponders in each car, virtually insuring it will be found.
Couple Lojac with a motion detector and your car if theft proof ! |
