Same thing goes for when they add oil during your consumption test. You don't want them overfilling it either and/or screwing up the test results.

I always check my oil level after sitting overnight.

False.
This is from GM fleet, not consumer, but still relevant.
http://www.gmfleet.com/content/dam/g...-oil-check.pdf

The Z06 folks have the same oil consumption, too. Read on....

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...se-inside.html

I think people need to realize, it's a boosted, high revving engine. There's a good chance that going to use a little oil. Especially, if your foot is in it all the time. The OP's is excessive, but 1 quart down, out of 10, after 3,000 miles is not bad at all.

Break it in right like many in previous posts here and rings seat properly and consumption is rare. Follow the owners manual and odds are you will have consumption issues as the rings will not properly abrade to the cylinder walls before the hard glaze covers the cross hatch hone pattern.

Always follow engine builders and the true GM break in procedure VS the "dumbed down" version for the masses:

And yes, same instructions come with the new/replacement LT 1 and LT4 engines.

And NEVER leave that factory fill oil in longer than 500 or so miles!! Just as GM is now changed that the Z06 must be changed by 500 miles after so many failures, this goes for ALL new engines.

Our Catchcan system (E2-X) will also help keep rings and ring lands free of sticky residue as well.

Once you have your pole, you can air your grievances.

Imo the break in is a joke. The engine ia broke in the first yime the engine sees heat and boost the rings are seated. We have built many very high hp engines from polaris turbo side by side to 600 inch big blocks. They are broke in on the dyno wide open and we have zero oil consumtion issues.

I agree with what you're saying, except the owners manual statement isn't totally correct. You are referring to how most people interpret what the owners manual says. They think the manual is telling them to baby the car for X miles, but that's not what it says at all. No WOT doesn't mean to always ***** foot around. You can go 90% and you're not wide open. So I obeyed the manual during break in, but I was definitely not always being gentle with the throttle.

I broke mine in the way I break in all my stuff. Drive normal for 1st few hundred miles with a few short hard pulls. It's only got 2300 miles but it feels strong and tight. I have read all over the place from engine builders of all types of engines and they all recommend getting a few short hard pulls in early to seat the rings.

Mine burns no oil and I followed the break in procedure tell 500 miles. I believe the 1 was a typo in front of what was suppose to be 500.

I personally don’t think That consumer products/ volume engines by major manufacturers Are all that sensitive to break in. I just didn’t drive mine like a wild man for the first 500 miles, then just drove it normally. At 10,000 miles, I’m not burning any oil at all, The same was true for my C7.
