questions about 6th gen Camaro

well it's time to buy a new car and I've narrowed it down to a Camaro SS and a 2018 Mustang GT. as a former 5th gen owner I remember well the paint chipping issues and am wondering if that is still an issue on the 6th gen cars? it wasn't just Camaros that suffered from easily chipping paint, seems all GM's suffered from that issue. also how is interior durability in the leather equipped cars? how is the clutch on the new cars?

Probably should be looked at a GT350 if you want something more comparable to the new SS.

Paint durability is no different than any other car on the road ... *puzzled*.

Every clutch is different, but it's smooth and not too heavy.

And leather seems to be holding up great.

It's a production car, you'll have your good production runs and your bad ones.

not true in my experience. I have had 3 Fords and one Dodge since my 2010 Camaro and none had the propensity to chip like the Camaro or my Pontiac GXP prior to the Camaro. all driven same way and on same roads. the GM chipping issue was widely known and complained about on Corvette and Camaro forums.

This car slings rocks my first purchase was the ZL1 rock guards and they made a huge difference. It’s an amazing car, I drive a m6 my only complaint is the throttle response could be better clutch is great, rev match is an amazing feature. Get the Camaro, I own a ZL1 and a 18 gt I enjoy my camaros way more

Thanks, I appreciate your input, even though the A8 is faster i'm leaning towards an M6. My ScatPack is an A8 and it's wicked fast but a little boring

M6 all the way I can do minor mods and walk a A8. M6 is cheaper more engaging obviously and still better from a roll. My zl1 is a garage queen but I track the SS can’t beat it with the automatic rev match it’s so fun and satisfying keep us updated!

Camaro is the better performance car. Mustang is the easier car to live with. That's essentially what it comes down to. Drive both and determine what's for you.

The 18 Mustang is going to be every bit as fast in a straight line, but overall, I'm still not sure about track manners. I doubt we can offer any more insight than that based on speculation. Drive both and then decide.

By the way, your cars mentioned in your signature are fantastic! Love the Buick.

my intention is to wait until the 2018 Mustang is on the lots here and then test drive both on same day.

I bought the Buick from the original little old lady owner and it was garaged it's entire life.

Good one you had me laughing. GT350 comparable to the SS? I'd take a GT350 any day of the week over an SS. Shame it only comes with an M6. Performance isn't the end all be all of a car. If you are strictly performance oriented it would be 1LE, not a standard SS. Either way since neither of those come in auto, C7 GS all day.

Not true about paint durability. Not every car is the same. My 2008 G8 GT was absolutely awful in regards to pain chipping. You give it a sideways glance and the front bumper would chip. Hopefully GM fixed these issues.

I've seen 2016+ Camaro with a lot of stone chips on the rear behind the wheel, I'm sure the zl1 addons rock guards will help with that. Not sure how much, no actual experience owning a 16+ Camaro, just what I have seen at the local C&C.

Also holy hell that GS is absolutely beautiful, would prefer it without the vinyl roof but damn!

OP I'm looking forward to driving a new 18 GT, just to see how much of an improvement over the 15-17 they are. Won't be buying one as I prefer a 4 door, but can't help but try the new cars.

believe it or not that's actually a factory painted top and not vinyl. I too am looking forward to driving the 2018 GT as well as the SS. I'm not overly fond of the S550 or Gen 6 Camaro exterior styling but it has slowly grown on me over the last year or so.

Oh really? Thought it was a vinyl. Love the green. Let me know your unbiased thoughts when you drive the GT.

I'm going tomorrow morning to drive an '18 GT PP 6M, and then heading to another dealer to driver a 1LE.
